Cozy Christmas master bedroom

I feel like I got a really late start on the Christmas decor this year and was on a mission to get it finished. I put the finishing touches on our master bedroom today and I'm excited to share the recent updates with you! If you missed the dramatic tray ceiling makeover that I shared last week, be sure to check that out! We LOVE the ceiling and it's changed the whole feel of the room. It's so lovely and cozy...we just adore it.
This is a prime example of giving a decorating/DIY blogger a cookie...and how one change turns into a bunch of them! A few weeks ago, while I was working on that ceiling, I decided I wanted to change out the lamps. I had lamps on the night stands (see that makeover here!), but when we opened and closed the shades every day they were in the way.
Plus we had to use really bright bulbs in them to get enough light if we wanted to read. So I went back to something I did years ago -- sconces over the bed. Since we don't have wiring run here, they had to be a plug in version.
I found these (affiliate) plug in sconces online and they are soooo beautiful!:
They fit the room so much better and they have two bonuses -- the cord is clear which is nice, and they turn on with a dial on the actual sconce. Best part is they dim. You know I'm hooked on dimmers so I was thrilled with that!
Another big change you may notice -- we changed out the bed. For years now I've been wanted to build a platform around our bed. I preferred the clean look of an upholstered platform to the bedskirt. I went back and forth on making our own or buying.
I did some searching for a few months and my decision was made when I hit a mega sale around Thanksgiving on the Park Upholstered bed:
You may remember that we've had the DIY tufted headboard for years (I made it forever ago). I was planning to move it up to our guest room, but we don't have quite enough room up there. It went to my sister's instead.
I LOVE how grand this one is -- it fits the room so much better!! We love the little "wings" on the sides...it makes the bed feel even more cozy. And the upholstered platform is so much cleaner looking.
Here's a look back on our master from earlier this year when I first shared it:
And here it is with the changes I've made over the past ten months!:
I found this Christmas bedding at HomeGoods last year. I'd still like to find a pretty quilt for the end of the bed.
Aren't the sconces pretty? I just love how they look -- and they tie in with the color of the chandelier and the knobs on the night stands:
We like to have a tree in the bedroom and this year I put it in the middle of the big window instead of in the corner:
The chandelier finally has a dimmer so especially on dark days like today this light stays on low:
Goodness I love dimmer switches. ;) I'll do a recap on the items in this room below in case you're interested in anything!
This is phase two of three for our master -- I still have another project planned. And down the line we may add hardwoods in this room like our old master. I have really liked the carpet, but also love hardwoods in the master, so we'll see!
I'll be sharing a Christmas tour soon, but until then be sure to follow along on Instagram for pics throughout the week! :)
Because I love them so much, here's another before and after! This was taken a few months ago (see more about that sign here):
And here's the same view, bringing all the drama!:
I'm obsessed with our ceiling! 😊😊
Do you add any Christmas touches to your bedroom? I highly recommend it! :) Are you finished with your holiday decor or are you still going?
If you interested, here are the sources for everything. Affiliate links included for your convenience!:
Bamboo chandelier (I found it at the outlet store)
Bedding, bench -- HomeGoods
Spool chair -- HomeGoods but this one is very similar
Bench -- HomeGoods but this is the same one
Drapes -- IKEA Sanela
I have been eyeing up that chandelier for awhile...love it in there! Your bedroom looks beautiful and it makes me want to put a tree in ours! Enjoy the rest of your week!

I really like how simple your room makeover was, but wow, such a big difference made! The sconces are really cute too, what a great deal!

Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI have been looking forever for bedside table lamps for our bedroom. We need the dimmer on the lamp so that the light can be made low most of the time but they are almost impossible to find. I have a Pottery Barn Marston lamp that has one. I wonder if it is a safety issue. I will be looking at the ones you have. Maybe I need to go a different direction than a lamp.
Yes it's rare to find them on lamps -- not sure why! I'm sure it's safe if they sell it like that. Just make sure you use bulbs that can be dimmed (some LEDs won't work.) :)
DeleteI liked the way the old bedroom decor looked so much, but oh my goodness I LOVE the updates you've done. Just beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteSarah, this looks AMAZING!!! I don't think I'd ever want to leave this room! My bedroom is so tiny, but I do love it - it's cozy as heck with a fireplace and the horses outside my window - I can't complain! It sure is tough to get out of my cozy bed on these frosty mornings, though!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is really grand! I'm not even going to comment on each stunning change that I admire, or this will be very lengthy!
ReplyDeleteYou sure get er done, and have an eye for making lovely rooms brilliant!

You're Christmas bedroom is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love what you’ve done in here. The room feels like a completely custom and exquisite space. I want to find a way to replicate it in my home! I especially love the ceiling. You’d asked in a previous post about painting the dresser. I would and I’d tie it in with the ceiling color. I also love a few holiday touches in each room. Your tree is so elegant!!! Thank you for sharing!! Merry Christmas 🎄
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Are those little houses under your TV from Target?
ReplyDeleteYes! I found them at the dollar spot last year. :)
DeleteDo you have a box spring? I am searching for a upholstered bed frame and am concerned the side slats won’t fit all the way around it.
ReplyDeleteWe don't -- we have a sleep number and it sat on a platform.
DeleteGorgeous Christmas bedroom!
