Gift bags aren't just for Christmas gifts! See all the fun ways to use them in your holiday decor!
A little holiday decorating trick I've used over the years is using Christmas gift bags of all types and sizes around the house. They are usually really inexpensive and the extra bonus -- easy to store!
As you'll see, I like to use both fabric and paper bags in my holiday decorations. They couldn't be easier to incorporate around the house!
I showed you our Target dollar spot tree a couple weeks ago:
The poinsettia next to it is sitting in a bag that also came from the dollar spot (this was $3) I grabbed a couple of them to use around the house -- and they all have plants sitting in them. It makes a regular planter instantly festive. Love the plaid detail on it!
I see a lot of draw string gift bags at Target and HomeGoods. They are adorable for gifts, but I find it's even more fun to use them around the house:
I shared our Christmas kitchen last week and this little gift bag was a perfect fit over a planter that sits on the counter:
If you have adults using your soap you won't have any problems with it getting on the bag. Kids are another story. ;) I just rinse off any that gets on there.
It's a fun little bit of Christmas cheer in the powder room!:
I got this little canvas bag years ago and always put a little tree inside:
We have a couple larger canvas bags I use for presents when we travel during the holidays. This year I put a large planter in one:
I LOVE that one! :)
I think my favorite Christmas DIY is to take super cute paper gift bags and make them into art for the season.
This one is actually the front of a gift bag:
I just cut out the front panel with scissors (the flat panel because it doesn't have the folds) and then put it in a frame -- super easy!
The best part about all of these is that they take up so little storage space.
You can store them in a file folder, or even better, just place them behind your everyday art in the frame until needed.
I found some other bags that would be great art! These were from the dollar store and Target:
I typically look at Dollar Tree for festive gift bag ideas that don't break the bank. I've also been known to keep a gift bag that was given and framed it later. :)
This size bag is usually a few bucks or less so it's a super inexpensive way to add some holiday decor around the house with minimal effort. Of course this would be even cheaper to pick up after the holidays!
Do you use wrapping supplies in your decor? I'd totally frame some pretty wrapping paper too! I've been doing this for years and love searching around the house to see what I can put a bag on. Ha!
Framing pretty greeting cards would be a great idea too. See how I make my own gift tags with some upcyling as well:

I've got a plaid cloth bag that something came in from Lands End years ago, and we use it every year for something just because it's pretty. I can't get over the glittered Christmas balls in your mixer bowl...why oh why?
ReplyDeleteLove all the creative uses of gift bags. We just got a Harry and David gift box with little drawers decorated in the Twelve days of Christmas. After all the goodies are eaten I will use it as decoration. I can't believe it's almost here either...weren't we just wrapping up summer?
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. Love all your bags

ReplyDeleteGreat decorations on a friendly budget.
ReplyDeleteLove paper gift bags! I like to keep those that are pretty and special. I didn't know I could use the bags as part of the decorations until now :) Plus, easy to store is a huge one!
ReplyDeleteI use bags for 99% of my gifts, but never thought of using them in so many different ways. I love the idea of plopping the soap dispenser in one! This year I made a "chalk board" out of black poster board from the dollar store and just used double sided tape to stick it on the glass of an existing picture.
ReplyDeleteI have owl decor in my daughter's bedroom and used a gift bag from the dollar tree to make a cute framed picture! So cheap and so cute!
ReplyDeleteAAAARRRRRGGGGG - I'M NOT READY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the gift bag ideas for cheap decor!
