Hello there! Welcome to a tour of our Christmas kitchen! I'm joining in with some truly talented bloggers this week to showcase one room in our house decked out for the holidays, and of course I went with our new kitchen, duh. :) My friend Chris at Just a Girl has coordinated this tour for a few years now and I'm honored to be a part of it. If you are visiting from Melaine's beautiful blog, welcome!
I took a ton of pictures, not gonna lie. I'm just going to share them with you and comment here and there -- enjoy!:
I wanted to keep our shelves functional but couldn't wait to add some Christmas touches:
A wood snowflake painted red:
And a seriously cute wood sign from the Target dollar spot:
Add in some fresh greenery and a couple ornaments and done!
I wanted to do something fun with the new vent hood -- I've been thinking about what I could do for months! I initially planned a wreath up there or some greenery, but we have plenty of that going on in the room. I had a fun idea instead and painted a wood sleigh and reindeer:
I just taped them up on the hood and they've stayed just fine. I had them "flying" across the front at first but it didn't look at good as I imagined. I love them lined up along the bottom!
I've seen this cute idea before but never implemented it -- we use this hot chocolate station a few times a week:
It is so dang cute and such a functional way to add some Christmas cheer in your kitchen. :) By the way, the peppermint Hershey kisses are to drop into your hot chocolate -- divine.
I added tons of little touches throughout the room:
I'm all about using what we already have this time of year -- I like keeping the same decor but just changing it out. The Bub put the ornaments in this bowl and I added some fresh greenery from the yard. Festive and easy!
I think the window seat is my favorite spot in the kitchen. I'm not surprised one bit. :) I made more napkin pillows, of course!:
I wanted the Newbury plaid pillows from Pottery Barn but there was no way I was spening $30 each on holiday pillows. I grabbed some of the napkins in the same design and made four of my own for $22 total. BEST hack ever:
I shared how I make these table linen pillows here. It never fails to work out well and much cheaper. Now I just need to get the cushion done for the window seat and this will be the coziest spot in the house!:Oh and that lumbar pillow in the front was a placemat. :) I can't stop!
I'll leave you with
I love bringing FUN to my holiday decor by using red. It's fresh and festive and I'm just a sucker for the traditional look at Christmas. I'm way into plaid this year too and I'll share more of our holiday decor very soon!
If you have questions about anything in this room, please feel free to ask in the comments. To see the transformation this room underwent this year, check out this post. It's pretty spectacular, if I do say so myself. ;) We love our new kitchen so much!
Now it's time to continue the tour at Erin's place, Sunny Side Up. Her home is absolutely gorgeous, you will not be disappointed!
Sarah, you have done such an amazing job on your kitchen - I just love everything about it! And your Christmas touches add the perfect amount of holiday warmth! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteCute decorations! I've been looking for small wreaths like you have in your bay window. Did you make those yourself, or did you buy them somewhere?
ReplyDeleteThey were $6 at Trader Joe's!
DeleteI just want to move into your kitchen! GREAT job Sarah!
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous, Sarah. I can't resist red for Christmas decorating either - I keep thinking I'm going to do something different, but the red draws me back in every time. Enjoy your gorgeous kitchen!
ReplyDeleteSarah, I love, love, love your home. It it so much fun to read your posts and see your photos. You have outdone yourself in the kitchen! Your Christmas decorating is fabulous. And your red accents are a perfect pop of holiday cheer. Did you make the red snowflake or did you buy it? I have been looking for one for awhile. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Claudia
ReplyDeleteI bought it at World Market -- it was plain wood and I spray painted it. :) Happy holidays to you Claudia!
DeleteThis is the Christmas kitchen of my dreams!!
ReplyDeleteI really like the red-painted snowflake! Do you remember where you found it?
ReplyDeleteWorld Market! (I sprayed it red.)
DeleteI love the festive touches in your kitchen, it is a space I never tire seeing pictures of! And I'm in love with the tiny ice skates, are they ornaments?
ReplyDeleteYes! I picked those up at Pottery Barn.
DeleteLove the sleigh on the hood! Supa cute!
ReplyDeletePlease share how you hang your wreaths with the ribbon on your doors and windows.... I feel like this should be easy, but it puzzles me everytime I try it :)
ReplyDeleteI slide the ribbon through the window and then shut it -- the window seat windows open from the top and middle so I was able to hang them from the top. :)
DeleteGorgeous, your new kitchen is amazing and the decor is perfect.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love how your kitchen has come along! And your making the Pottery Barn pillows out of napkins--brilliant!! Always inspired by your blog!
ReplyDeleteAnnie- All Things Big And Small
Your kitchen is stunning! When it comes to decorations Im luckily if I get my living room and dinning room decorated!
ReplyDeleteI would love to cook in that kitchen lol
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the little ball-garland hanging in your bay windows. I have a space that would be perfect for. Did you buy or make them??
ReplyDeleteGot them from Target!
DeleteThe sled hanging above the stove is adorable! Do you recall where it is from?
ReplyDeleteIt was from HomeGoods a few years ago. :)
DeleteSarah! Your kitchen looks amazing! LOVE it all. It's so welcoming and cherry! And your PB pillows are darling! You are so creative. It's absolutely perfect! Happy holidays cutie! xo
ReplyDeleteWhere did you buy the wooden chairs you have at your table?
ReplyDeleteWorld Market, love them.
DeleteSo fun and cheery! Love it all!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love your new kitchen. Where did you get your little trees?
ReplyDeleteI love all your little touches! I"m going to have to find some of that greenery to add into our home :)

I love every detail in your kitchen. Everything looks perfect... and your window seat looks so fabulous with those pillows on.
ReplyDeleteI love all the little touches that just make your so-beautiful kitchen look very much like home and comfort and Christmas! Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThe transformation of you kitchen has been really something to behold. So lovely! I'm curious to know where you got your shelves, I'm certain they are DIY cuz that's how you roll but I also really love the shelf hardware. :o)
ReplyDeleteHa! You are correct! I got the hardware from Restoration Hardware, more here: http://www.thriftydecorchick.com/2015/11/my-first-shelfie.html
DeleteI am obsessed with the trucks/cars with trees. Where did you get the towel? or apron? hanging on the wall to the right of your window seat?
ReplyDeleteMe too! They were from HomeGoods.
DeleteI'm loving the car with a tree on top thing this year too! In fact, I saw that placemat on the website and went to my store to get it but they didn't have it, so I ordered it and I'm waiting for it to come so I can make it into a pillow. All your posts about turning napkins and placemats into pillows have inspired me! I had to laugh when I saw you did the same thing...because of course you did!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing!! Merry Christmas :)
ReplyDeleteI just started following your blog. You have a lot of great ideas. I especially like the white serving tray with the mugs and cute little tree. Great idea if you are living in a small apartment and do not have a lot of room for Christmas decorations! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteLOVE your kitchen! You did a fantastic job and the Christmas Decor is just perfect... I was smiling the whole time. EXCELLENT work, you seriously are a Thrifty Decor Chick! Happy Holidays to you and your family! Love from Wisco., Jacki :-)
Hi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteYou went above and beyond in the creation of superior Christmas spirit and I can honestly say you succeeded. Even over-succeeded :D
Although for some, it may look like a bit of effort here and there but what counts most for me is the style and grace with which you executed the task.
The decorative elements you added complete the picture without distorting it. No tasteless clutter occurred (which would have happened if I tried to decorate my kitchen, hahah) :D
Love the post, keep them coming :)
Love your kitchen. Where did you get your dough bowl? I love it!
ReplyDeleteTarget! They had them in their summer decor this year.
DeleteSimply beautiful as always! You have just the right amount of Christmas decor, looks very livable. I really like the hot chocolate tray and you inspired me to do something similar! I was at Home Goods yesterday looking at their napkins, thinking about making pillows!
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, when you usually post so you surprised me today!
I love it so much! It's festive at every angle. I love the santa and sleigh on your hood. Last year, I didn't really have a lot of space to decorate so I just cut a ton of holiday silhouettes in red vinyl and put them on the walls - it was such a fun and festive touch and didn't take up any storage space.
ReplyDeleteI love what you've done with your latest kitchen redo. I've really liked every stage of your kitchen changes but you seriously have a way of freshening a room in your updates. This one is so crisp and fresh and minimalistic in way. It's not overly decorated yet not stark or sterile. So inviting and "just right"! I espevially like the cubbies over the cabinets. No wasted space and a for sure way of decluttering the space to the ceiling. The Traditional red and green Christmas decorating colors have a way of freshening up the room even further. Love it!

ReplyDeleteSuch a great idea! I have 2 male employee friends I needed something for and this is perfect suggestion to do!
ReplyDeletePotentially random question about your chalkboard - did you paint the switchplate with chalkboard paint? Do you find that it gets in the way at all?
ReplyDeleteI ask because I've been dying to do the same thing in my kitchen since we bought our house and have been held up by an apparently unmovable switch smack in the middle of the space. Seeing this solution in a photo is potentially life-changing :)
I did, with chalkboard spray paint. :) It doesn't bother me -- especially when the kids use it, they go lower so it's not in the way. I usually use the space above it. Go for it! :)
DeleteAwesome! Thanks :)
DeleteIt looks wonderful!! I love pretty much everything about everything and your kitchen is just swoon worthy!
ReplyDeleteLove that sleigh & reindeers :)

I could move right into your home and not change one thing...I love it that much!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is beautiful, Sarah, and all of the wonderful extra touches of holiday cheer just enhances that beauty!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah! Wondering if you remember or can tell me where you got your runner in the kitchen? I've been looking for something similar! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteTarget! :)
DeleteSo cute!
