Tour our gray and white Christmas kitchen

December 08, 2015

Hello there! Welcome to a tour of our Christmas kitchen! I'm joining in with some truly talented bloggers this week to showcase one room in our house decked out for the holidays, and of course I went with our new kitchen, duh. :) My friend Chris at Just a Girl has coordinated this tour for a few years now and I'm honored to be a part of it. If you are visiting from Melaine's beautiful blog, welcome!

I took a ton of pictures, not gonna lie. I'm just going to share them with you and comment here and there -- enjoy!:

I wanted to keep our shelves functional but couldn't wait to add some Christmas touches:
metal brackets wood shelves

A wood snowflake painted red:
And a seriously cute wood sign from the Target dollar spot:

Add in some fresh greenery and a couple ornaments and done!

I wanted to do something fun with the new vent hood -- I've been thinking about what I could do for months! I initially planned a wreath up there or some greenery, but we have plenty of that going on in the room. I had a fun idea instead and painted a wood sleigh and reindeer:
wood vent hood
I just taped them up on the hood and they've stayed just fine. I had them "flying" across the front at first but it didn't look at good as I imagined. I love them lined up along the bottom!

I've seen this cute idea before but never implemented it -- we use this hot chocolate station a few times a week:

It is so dang cute and such a functional way to add some Christmas cheer in your kitchen. :) By the way, the peppermint Hershey kisses are to drop into your hot chocolate -- divine.

I added tons of little touches throughout the room:

easy Christmas decor with ornaments

I'm all about using what we already have this time of year -- I like keeping the same decor but just changing it out. The Bub put the ornaments in this bowl and I added some fresh greenery from the yard. Festive and easy!

I think the window seat is my favorite spot in the kitchen. I'm not surprised one bit. :) I made more napkin pillows, of course!:
napkin holiday pillows

I wanted the Newbury plaid pillows from Pottery Barn but there was no way I was spening $30 each on holiday pillows. I grabbed some of the napkins in the same design and made four of my own for $22 total. BEST hack ever:
Pottery Barn pillows for cheap
I shared how I make these table linen pillows here. It never fails to work out well and much cheaper. Now I just need to get the cushion done for the window seat and this will be the coziest spot in the house!:

Oh and that lumbar pillow in the front was a placemat. :) I can't stop!

I'll leave you with a few a lot more shots of the space:

I love bringing FUN to my holiday decor by using red. It's fresh and festive and I'm just a sucker for the traditional look at Christmas. I'm way into plaid this year too and I'll share more of our holiday decor very soon!

If you have questions about anything in this room, please feel free to ask in the comments. To see the transformation this room underwent this year, check out this post. It's pretty spectacular, if I do say so myself. ;) We love our new kitchen so much!

Now it's time to continue the tour at Erin's place, Sunny Side Up. Her home is absolutely gorgeous, you will not be disappointed!

  10. Please share how you hang your wreaths with the ribbon on your doors and windows.... I feel like this should be easy, but it puzzles me everytime I try it :)

    1. I slide the ribbon through the window and then shut it -- the window seat windows open from the top and middle so I was able to hang them from the top. :)

  24. I am obsessed with the trucks/cars with trees. Where did you get the towel? or apron? hanging on the wall to the right of your window seat?

  25. I'm loving the car with a tree on top thing this year too! In fact, I saw that placemat on the website and went to my store to get it but they didn't have it, so I ordered it and I'm waiting for it to come so I can make it into a pillow. All your posts about turning napkins and placemats into pillows have inspired me! I had to laugh when I saw you did the same thing...because of course you did!

  26. It looks amazing!! Merry Christmas :)

  27. I just started following your blog. You have a lot of great ideas. I especially like the white serving tray with the mugs and cute little tree. Great idea if you are living in a small apartment and do not have a lot of room for Christmas decorations! Thanks for sharing.

  29. Hi Sarah,

You went above and beyond in the creation of superior Christmas spirit and I can honestly say you succeeded. Even over-succeeded :D

Although for some, it may look like a bit of effort here and there but what counts most for me is the style and grace with which you executed the task.

The decorative elements you added complete the picture without distorting it. No tasteless clutter occurred (which would have happened if I tried to decorate my kitchen, hahah) :D

Love the post, keep them coming :)

  31. Simply beautiful as always! You have just the right amount of Christmas decor, looks very livable. I really like the hot chocolate tray and you inspired me to do something similar! I was at Home Goods yesterday looking at their napkins, thinking about making pillows!

I always look forward to Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, when you usually post so you surprised me today!

  32. I love it so much! It's festive at every angle. I love the santa and sleigh on your hood. Last year, I didn't really have a lot of space to decorate so I just cut a ton of holiday silhouettes in red vinyl and put them on the walls - it was such a fun and festive touch and didn't take up any storage space.

  33. I love what you've done with your latest kitchen redo. I've really liked every stage of your kitchen changes but you seriously have a way of freshening a room in your updates. This one is so crisp and fresh and minimalistic in way. It's not overly decorated yet not stark or sterile. So inviting and "just right"! I espevially like the cubbies over the cabinets. No wasted space and a for sure way of decluttering the space to the ceiling. The Traditional red and green Christmas decorating colors have a way of freshening up the room even further. Love it!

  36. Potentially random question about your chalkboard - did you paint the switchplate with chalkboard paint? Do you find that it gets in the way at all?

I ask because I've been dying to do the same thing in my kitchen since we bought our house and have been held up by an apparently unmovable switch smack in the middle of the space. Seeing this solution in a photo is potentially life-changing :)

    1. I did, with chalkboard spray paint. :) It doesn't bother me -- especially when the kids use it, they go lower so it's not in the way. I usually use the space above it. Go for it! :)
