Photo tree and a holiday bedroom

I’ve tackled some little projects in our bedroom over the past few days and added some Christmas touches in the room. I’m especially excited about the tree! I got this one years back at Lowe’s after the holidays for $12. It’s super skinny and an easy one to store.
For the past few years I’ve only turned on the lights (it came with them) and left it at that. I’ve wanted to decorate it more but just never get to it. This year I took a few minutes and did something a little different. I wrapped some jute “ribbon” around the tree that I’ve had for awhile, then I picked out some of my favorite photos from over the year and printed them out.
I just stuck them inside the tree:
They are pictures of everyday stuff and from the wonderful trips we took this year (that one to the right is us on one of our four trips down Splash Mountain a few weeks ago. My husband’s face is AWESOME.)
I edited them so they were in a sepia tone:
I meant to print them out way smaller but it was a happy accident – I love how the bigger pics look. Our son and his nephew top the tree:
My heart is full! I am a lucky girl.
It’s such a wonderful way to look back at our blessings this year. The Bub and my husband loved it:
I love having it our room but next year we may move it down to the family room. It would be perfect down there and may actually end up down there yet this year. :)
My tree skirt is just extra fabric left over from my DIY headboard in this room. I just fluffed it up around the tree, no hemming:
Our bedroom is one of my favorites in our house and it’s especially warm and cozy this time of year.
I took more pics to share with you today – including the obligatory bokeh pic:
I’m a blogger. It’s mandatory.
I took most of these at night because I especially love it then:
I kept most of the items on the mantel and just added some greenery and lights:
The art was painted by me – I was trying to create something for the family room weeks ago and this turned out too dark. It’s still a little dark for me but it fills this space for now. :) The frame is just cheap lattice wood.
This room is still very much in between – these walls are the original color I put up years ago, Tornado Watch (from Lowe’s). I have the new paint but this room is a doozy so I’ve been putting it off for a year months:
I want to do a treatment to that fireplace wall – I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to do and I finally have a plan!
The new wall color is lighter and will look lovely – I just want to make sure to keep a cozy feel in here:
I have plans for that long bench too – it’s the perfect size and super comfy so I plan to redo it so it works in the room a little better.
I LOVE this space though, even half way “there”:
Have you decorated a tree in a unique way? I’ll be saving these photos and will just add to them next year. Love it!
Speaking of trees…my annual Christmas tree party will be held later this week! If you are a blogger, please join me this Thursday and show off your trees and home tours. If you’re not a blogger, grab a cup of cocoa and enjoy!
If that were my bedroom, I'd never leave it!
ReplyDeleteWell that turned out just beautiful! I love this idea.. especially in a room that is more private since a photo tree is so personal. Once we move out of our tiny downtown apartment I hope to do this in my own home!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!

Your bedroom is stunning and all decorated for C'mas is wonderful! I love your tree with the family pics, I've always loved doing it too. Next year when I redo our bedroom and it looks nice, I will borrow your beautiful décor with tree too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas!

Wowza!! These photos of your bedroom are speechlessly beautiful! I love the idea of adding black and white/sepia family photos to the tree . SUCH a beautiful job, Sarah!!
ReplyDeleteI like the skinny, small trees and I am starting to collect them. I have a set of three that stay up in a corner of a room all year - I just take the decorations off. It's greenery that doesn't need watering!
ReplyDeleteI bought a new skinny tree for the kitchen this year - best thing about it is that it is a spiral and it collapses into a small pile and the center rod is in 4 pieces, so easy on the storage. I am using cookie cutters, teaspoons, miniature kitchen utensils and colorful tea bags as decorations. Nearby is a tea station with extra teabags, a pot, cups - all to enjoy a warm cup during the day.
Since getting the decorations out of the attic was starting to be harder for me, I bought a bunch of clear plastic 16qt boxes and I sorted my decorations by theme or type (family heirlooms, Santa, nautical, wood, musical, etc) and have them on a high shelf in my office. Easier for me to get at them once a year and decorate a tree in a particular way. And, I had to really evaluate the decorations and I said good-bye to some of them.
That kitchen tree sounds lovely! I will def have to look out for in the post-Christmas sales!
DeleteLove this idea! The kids have trees in their rooms, so why not us, right? Plus, I just love the glow of a Christmas tree - there's nothing like it. And you make it even sweeter with the beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour room is beautiful Sarah!! I have always wanted a tree in our master, but didn't think there was room. I don't know why I never thought of a super skinny one! I will adding that to my after Christmas sale wish list!!
ReplyDeleteSarah I just love the tree. One year I didn't feel like decorating our tree, so here's what I did, all the Christmas cards I received from family and friends I placed them on our tree, just like you did your pictures. It was such a great change for us. Tho I love the picture idea and might try that next year. Love the skinny tree, I will need to look for a deal this year after Christmas. Many blessing to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteYour ideas are really great. The photos on the tree, gives warmth and a homey feel to the room. That would be a very nice focal point. I'd use the idea to decorate our living room. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOMGee! That grey wall: LOVE IT!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful room!! I love how you put the pictures in the tree. Gorgeous.

Love this room!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the tree. Love, love. Such a great idea. And holy crap, your room is HUGE.
ReplyDeleteThat's such a cool and unique idea! And I love the colorway you have going on in your home. Very cozy.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a delight it must be to enter that space after a long day! Can't wait to see what you do with the walls and above the fireplace! =)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful room!
ReplyDeleteNow you look-y here. Don't go getting me in divorce court by adding another must-have tree to my tree hoarding problems I've got 'round these parts. I just can't believe you! I love it. I love this room. I love the tree. I love the photos. I need to buy a skinny tree... I could justify it by saying it's a reminder to keep fit over the holidays... I mean, the tree truly is the only skinny thang with all this baking and cooking goin' on!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful room and the simple idea of pictures and burlap ribbon on your tree looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous trees! Thanks for hosting. I've been gone from blogging for a year,(it's great to be back) and haven't posted about my tree this year, so I shared about a DIY pallet wood nativity we just made. Liz from HomeToCottage.com (formerly known as DecorateWithaLittleBit.com)
ReplyDeleteWhat a creative idea. First decorating a bedroom tree and decorating it simply with photos and jute ribbon. So simple yet beautiful! I wish I had the space!!
