From baby nursery to big boy room

admiralty blue paint color

We're taking a little trip down memory lane -- the Bub’s adorable apple green nursery was an absolute joy to create:

*wipes a tear

It was so serene and peaceful and one of my favorite parts of the room were the stripes in different widths on the wall:

The were three different tones of an apple green that I just fell in love with.

My Dad and I did a lot of work on this room together when I was pregnant so it has especially special memories for me. :)

A few years ago I knew it was time to change it up, cause darn it, the child was growing. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed transforming the space into this red, white and blue airplane room:

I am so not a primary colors kind of girl, but it just felt classic and timeless and right.

The walls are navy blue, but all of the white trim keeps it from getting too dark:

DIY built ins by window

That’s a cat in the window, not a stuffed animal. He loves the room too. ;)

Not much has changed in here, I love it that much.

We added a duvet cover and the Legos have started to make their way in here too:

Recently I took the rocker out of there to make more space, but I can’t bring myself to get rid of it quite yet. For now it’s in the playroom. :)

It did free up a ton of space by the window, so the window seat is finally going to happen! I can’t wait to get that started:

You can see more about the green and cream nursery (sigh) here and much more about the Bub’s airplane-themed bedroom here

  4. I love how you framed out the place on the wall where you hung the frames! I am totally stealing this for our oldest son's room! You did a wonderful job taking it from a nursery to a big boy room! It looks like it should be in a PBK magazine!

  8. My kids' "rooms" are in progress right now. My family lives in a one-bedroom apartment (<500sqft), and our second baby will be here in July(ish). We're renovating our only bedroom into three separate "room" spaces (gutting closets, converting nooks and building walls), so that each baby gets its own little "room" - and mom and dad get a little more privacy. I'm blogging about the progress over at my place. It's going to be crazy in there...just crazy enough to work.

  9. I always love looking at pictures of your son's room. Tasteful and mature, but still totally kid-friendly. You did such an amazing job in there!! I have two boys, and I love reading your ideas for little guys. There are so many cute girl things out there, and I'm grateful for the equally awesome boy ideas you share.

Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

  10. We just transitioned our son from his nursery to a big boy bed and I'm slowly implementing the construction theme (his request!). It is pretty sad, but at least I still have a baby-baby (6 months) to snuggle with and carry around:)

Somehow I thought this party was next week, I'm blaming the adorable baby for stealing some of my brain and my ability to count 3 weeks:)

  15. Wow, those kids rooms are impressive!

Puts my little ones rooms to shame. Need to have a think about how to improve them now.

  16. My boys' rooms weren't done recently, so I don't know that joining your party would be right, since adding a button to the posts probably wouldn't send anyone to your party.

But here's the links to their rooms in the event you'd like to see them. My younger son's skateboarding/snowboarding room, my older son's football room, and their Under the Sea bathroom. All of these rooms are kind of over the top paint jobs, but if you can't go nuts in a kid's room, where can you?

Thanks for hosting this party. I love seeing what everyone else is doing.

  17. Both of the looks of the Bubs' room are wonderful! I don't even have any pics of the room our kids (who are now 27 & 29) had as babies. But if I did, it would scare anyone! We lived in a mobile home and the walls were quite dark paneling. Having no money to really even paint/prime at the time, (or even the knowledge about the ability to prime/paint paneling!) and the overall pretty awful lack of anything attractive in there, I'm surprised my boys grew up so well adjusted. LOL!

  18. Wow. I am so not participating in this one, my girls' rooms don't come close to measuring up. But I am going to peruse and borrow some of the best ideas, for when they're ready to change things up.
