Our warm and cozy family room

Since the beginning of August, I’ve been cravin’ some warm colors around here. Have I mentioned fall is my favorite time of year? A few times? Well, here I go one. more. time. :)
The warm colors of fall make my heart go pitter pat. They’re just so…well, warm. I’m a wordsmith you know. ;)
I’ve never been one to really change out my decor for the seasons – I mean, I decorate for fall and the holidays and all that good stuff, but I’ve never changed out drapes, pillows, bedding…all the bigger items.
But like I said, it’s August and I’m trying with all my might to hold off on putting the pumpkins out. You’d be proud of me – I’m determined to hold off till September. (September 1st, but whatev.)
So I figured I could cozy up the joint with a few changes – but I wanted to make sure they’d work into the winter, spring and summer as well by making just a few changes when the time comes.
I was on a mission -- make our family room warm and cozy and fallish without necessarily being fallish. Just a schosh of warm. A leeetle bit of cozy. Just a smooch. Like you’re kissin’ your sister. (Name that movie!)
My first goal was to find a new rug. I got a new one back in January, but it was very spring/summery:
It was also way to small for this room. I layered a larger rug underneath it, but as time went on, it still wasn’t feeling big enough. And then Pee Cat struck again (CURSES!!! She owes me big time cash!!) and we needed to replace the big rug anyway.
Free cat to a good home!! Nah…I kid.
Kind of.
So off to HomeGoods I went again…and this time I found a GORG rug that was 7.3 by 9.3 feet. Score!! It couldn’t have been a more perfect size.
I hesitated on it for a bit though, because it had a color in it I almost never decorate with:
BLUE!! :)
I waffled back and forth between it and another and finally asked the one person who always knows best – my three-year-old. He pointed to the one with blue and said “That one!”
And that one is was:
And ooooohhhh, I can’t even tell you how much I love it. I love the blue touches!
I made few simple changes to the mantel as well. I had a smaller candlestick I picked up at Goodwill months ago, so I added it to the two to make a trio. (Decorate in threes – it works! Don’t know why, but it does!)
I sprayed the small candlestick in Heirloom White, the middle one stayed brown, and I found the PERFECT green called Oregano at Home Depot for the largest one:
I luuuurve that color!
I took the green grassy looking decorative balls out of my cloche, and replaced them with more rattan and twine covered ones instead:
Cause styrofoam wrapped with jute SCREAMS fall to me. Is it just me?
And it was done. I love it – the colors, the simplicity, the texture. YUMMY!:
I exchanged the end table at the corner of the sofas with one of my favorite pieces eva:
It was a Goodwill find from waaaay back. And it was hideous green. My Dad stripped the whole thing down and refinished it as a gift to me.
Check out all the detail:
Can you even imagine how much work that was? I LOVE this table and I wanted to have it where it was really appreciated. (Love you Dad!)
I finally get to use all my purdy blue books now! Cause I have BLUE in the room – yeehaw!:
I found a large tray for 40 percent off at Michael's to hold all the necessities:
You know. Like magazines, tissue, a yummy candle and a jute wrapped jar. Cause you never know when you may need a jute wrapped jar.
:)
I know the tray is massive on top of that table, but I really don’t care. Love it. (It looks like it doesn’t fit from the angle above, but it does.)
The new accessories in the room are from around the house. They’re simple but full of texture:
There were a few splurges in the space as well…but they weren’t really splurges for me – they were all bought on credit.
Chillax peeps – not credit credit…store credit. And gift cards. Awww yeah. Is there anything better? NO, no there is NOT. :)
When I found out the rattan storage boxes from our bedroom were recalled, I took them back to Target and got a store credit in return. So I was able to buy the FAB baskets I had been eyeing for months…for fareeeee:
Oh the dear lovin’ Lord, I adore these things. They are sturdy and pretty and HUGE.
And oh yeah -- the chalkboard labels? I’m dying.
I got a round one and a square one, trying to overcome my symmetrical issues. :)
Then, it was time for the pillows. Oh, the glorious pillows. Sigh.
I had gift cards/credit for Pottery Barn, so was able to get a few of their pillow covers free o’ charge. I got some in cream, some in rust. They were $25 each, and I love their texture and the fact that they are washable.
Then, one day I saw a pillow in the most recent catalog, and there was this odd light shining down from the heavens on it and I knew…it must. be. mine. It was $40, and I only had $15 left on my credit, but I went ahead and paid the difference, and oh la la, it was SO WORTH IT:
Isn’t beautiful? It’s got all the colors from the rug – blues, reds, golds, greens. I just want to squish it, it’s so pretty.
Because I didn’t want to shell out the cash for inserts, I used other pillows and inserts from around the house to fill them:
:) They worked perfectly. For the longer pillow, a regular bed pillow filled it nicely:
Just the pillows alone warmed up this room SO much!
And now, we have a lovely, warm, cozy, almost-fall-but-not-quite family room:
The bigger rug makes this room feel twice the size, I swear. It was $199, which wasn’t bad at all for how large it is. Especially considering the 8 by 11 was $400, for just a few feet more.
Because the room felt bigger, the $10 beadboard coffee table was feeling all wimpy. I moved the black Goodwill table from our living room into this space, and at first was worried it was too big. But after about five minutes, I was in LOVE:
The Bub can really spread out his games, anyone on the sofa can prop of their feet, and did you know doing laundry is waaaay easier when you have a lovely spot to fold clothes right in front of the TV?:
Well, it is! :)
All of these changes, along with the addition of the Craigslist dresser a couple months ago, have made this room feel so grown up and finished:
It is truly my favorite room in the house right now:
I love how my Ballard art has all of the colors of the room in it as well:See that little black smudge towards the top on that art? That’s why it was a fraction of the cost at the Ballard Designs outlet. :) It doesn’t bother me one bit for that price!
I love that most of the changes in here are easy to work with for all seasons – I can spray paint the candlesticks whenever I want, the rug will always work and a few pillows can be changed out to lighten up the space in the spring.
If you could see me right now, you’d see the dreamy smile on my face. Love:
;)
I’m in full fall nesting mode and loving it! I love these changes so much, I’m making a few to the living room too. I’ll show you that soon.
Have you started warming up your spaces? Are you pulling out the pumpkins yet? If you say you are, I’m SO doing it!!
Wow! Great find on the gorgeous new rug Sarah. The size and colors really made a difference. The pillows are so pretty as well!
ReplyDeleteI must have missed the post where you changed your coffee table? I remember a big white one that you made in the shape of a square.
The room looks fabulous! :)
I clicked your link and see it now about the table switch. I would have thought the other one was bigger? The new one looks really good! LOVE the oregano candlestick. I'm going to check our HD for it. So pretty for fall.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the addition of the blue. That rug was a great steal and the Pottery Barn pillow is delicious.
ReplyDeleteMy pumpkins and fall wreath came out last week! YES!! Love it. And I love your family room. And that rug. And your mantle. Yep, I love everything!
ReplyDeleteLove the rug and the whole room. I think the candlesticks look great how fun with the 3 different colors. I love the furniture you have also. I wish my room looked professionally decorated like your room does!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the new rug. Tell me though, why is your furniture in the living room so smursched together? It looks like you have ample space to push them out a bit, is this a design thing? Every time I see pictures of that particular room I ask my self the same question so I am asking you. I'd like to see the couches pushed back a bit to make some room. Just some constructive criticism. I do love your blog though VERY MUCH!! You are inspiring.
ReplyDeleteK.
I am totally going to Goodwill this weekend to find some candlesticks, Home Depot to find that green, and slapping those babies in my living room. That color combo is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite color combo is chocolate and baby blue! : ) I'm drooling over your rug! (sorry...I'll clean up later...) ; )
Oh, I LOVE all the changes, especially that rug, and the blue in it....love the mixture of all the colors together. But whoa, I am not EVEN thinking about fall colors yet here in TX...it is nearly a 100 degrees everyday, and I don't need any more warmth, my friend. I look forward to it in about six weeks, mayyyyyybe.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
I sure enjoy yours, though, because fall IS my favorite time of the year, too!
love it! I just found your blog a while ago so this might have been addressed somehwere.. why did you guys decide to not put the TV above the fire place? Did it just not fit right? We have ours above our fireplace and its way too high but the only place for it. I love how yours looks on the wall!
ReplyDeleteI adore the candlesticks - HD here I come for some Oregano paint. Love your comment about the coffee table and folding laundry - all mine is folded on our coffee table in front of the TV. I have a huge table in my laundry/craft room that would be perfect for folding laundry, but it is always covered with (junk)- I mean projects in progress!! No pumpkins here in South TX so I love reading your posts about Fall arriving soon.
ReplyDeleteMadagascar 2!!!! LOVE that quote! "I said KISS IT!"
ReplyDeleteLove your blog too--read it every day!
I am new to your blog and I am just lovin it!!! You crack me up with how you write, and I am so inspired when I read your post. I noticed you have alot of SLAH items! Are you a consultant?
ReplyDeleteSon of a gun!! I NEED that rug. Those are the colors I am going for in my family room. A room I have yet to decorate fully and love ever since we move here 5+ years ago. This room is the death of me. I finally decided that a new rug was what I needed and it needed to have blue, brown and green in it. Wish I could steal your rug. The room looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove love love it! I have that same tray from Michaels - we use it for magazines and remotes (well cats like to sleep in there, too). I started slowly moving some fall pieces in. I am hoping my husband won't notice since he told me I have to wait til September 1, too. Doesn't he know how we yearn for fall?
ReplyDeleteSooo purdy. You have a gift girlfriend! (But I think you know that.)
ReplyDeleteReally?? People swap out draperies on a seasonal basis? That's dedication to the season! :) Your home looks so warm, cozy, peaceful, and inviting.
ReplyDeleteOoooH! That rug!! I would change my color scheme for that one...just gorgeous!! I read about Homegoods all over the place & I have never been in one.. none near here that I know of. (maybe I will have to check & make a roadtrip :)
ReplyDeleteYour whole space is beautiful...fabulous job!!
OOOh I love all the fallifying! Fall is my favorite favorite favorite time of year....I love the colors, the smells, the crispness in the air...Ahhh........
ReplyDeleteI have not pulled out my fallifying items yet. I have a personal rule...No fall items till September. No Halloween items till October. No Thanksgiving till November. No Christmas till December...etc. etc. etc.
Looks great, so finished and pulled together! Bravo! All ready for fall : ) Those are the colors that I adore as well.
ReplyDeletehiya! the blues in the rug are doing WONDERS for the entire room!! nice job!
ReplyDeleteand the other day when i "twasked" you about the fabric on the pillows in that room that you had "sneak peeked" us when you showed the bamboo shades... yeah, i was totally hoping you had made that pillow on the couch and that i could go out and buy the same fabric and make suh-weet curtains from it.
dang! pottery barn pillows? you are killing me. you can't be trusted. i can't hack that! or can i??
i really love how you are lightening things up in there... all while "warming it up" too! more blue, sarah! touches! like... maybe in place of some green? or brown!
anyhoo... bye
angie
I really love this room! These are my fave colors too. I just feel so drawn to the warmer colors, and fall has always been my fave season. You've done such an amazing job. I feel inspired to finally do some decorating here. I'll never look at not-so-pretty-candlesticks the same way again. Spraypaint! Love it!
ReplyDeleteLast night it was so cool in my room that I slept under a quilt. I cannot wait for fall! I am planning on waiting until Labor Day to bring out my autumn themed decor...mostly 'cause it is a long weekend and it will take at least 6 trips to the basement to get it all out!
ReplyDeleteYour room looks fabulous and I am dying over that rug!
Somebody's been busy! Nice.
ReplyDeleteSue
xo
It looks so cozy! I wish I could curl up there with my coffee and watch TV all day instead of go to work:)
ReplyDeletethriftysouthernlivingwithbrooke.blogspot.com
I love all the new additions, especially the rug. I have a lot of similar colors in my family room as well. You will find the blue is easy to work with, it is great with the little robin's egg blue eggs you find around springtime and goes coastal very well in the summer.
ReplyDeleteLove the new rug and I think the addition of blue adds a nice touch to the space (not too much but just enough to notice it)! It actually reminds me of the PB Emerson Rug that I've been dying to get for a while now in my DR (but some of the reviews haven't been so great about the material an cleaning it)! I may have to scout out HG and see if I can find this similar beauty!
ReplyDeleteLoving your 'warm' basket. I might have to steal that idea! Fall is my favourite time of year too, but the hubby won't give me the green light to decorate until we're at least in September. He likes to hang onto Summer for as long as possible... I look forward to all the warm food... I'm so over salad and B-bq's now. Bring on Autumn! Lx
ReplyDeleteNo wonder you're in love! That room is absolutely fabulous. I want it in my house!!! You are certainly an inspiration... keep all the beautiful ideas coming.
ReplyDeleteI have been telling myself to wait until Sept 1 before I start "warming" my house up some. It is still in the high 90's where I live!
ReplyDeleteI make slip covers for my pillows, saves a bunch of money and oh so simple. Love your new rug and what you've done to the room. Anna
I haven't pulled out the pumpkins yet, but I am so thinking about it! You do it first, then I'll do it. ; ) Love your little changes to sneak Fall in. I'm not totally sure what I want to do this year. I think I may need a weekend to just bring everything out of storage, see what I've got and play around with different ideas.
ReplyDeleteI love those Smith and Hawken baskets at Target. And I love that you put warm on the label! The rug is perfect~
ReplyDeleteOooh---Gleeee for sure!! ;) It does look so warm and cozy. I'm holding off on Fall here b/c it is just too darn hot. I am so ready for jeans and sweaters. Really. I don't bust out pumpkins until October, but I'll pull some Fall stuff down in September.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with ya... bring on the pinecones and hay bales for the front porch.. yeee haawww.
ReplyDeleteDi
That's a fabulous rug. It all came together so well. The new pillow really ties in the red and blue.
ReplyDeleteNow... keep that #@%& PeeCat in the basement away from you new rug. ;-)
I love your love of fall! I feel exactly the same way! :) It's still almost 100 degrees here, so I'm thinking September 1 might be too soon. :(
ReplyDeleteThe rug you found is beautiful! LOVE it!
What a wonderful living room, great job!
I love everything! It looks so nice :)
ReplyDeleteGreat job!! And I think the blue in the rug is perfect :0)
ReplyDeleteIT would be my favourite room too ... you have made it so cozy with those rich colours on the pillow and LOVE the rug.
ReplyDeleteI am making a trip to Buffalo (from Toronto) when I am on vacation the first two weeks of sept ... just strictly to go to a Holly Lobby /Home Goods store Hope I find fabulous things too!
I love all the changes, everything looks fabulous! I am dying to start decorating for fall, but feel kind of silly when it's still in the upper 90's here.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite colors!! Fall! Love the blue. Actually blue is my favorite color but the only rooms that have it are our master bedroom and my son's room.
ReplyDeleteI have the same colors in a canvas I have hanging above the fireplace. Love it all. Thanks for sharing!
I love the new rug!!! I'm so going to Home Goods now, like right now!!
ReplyDeleteBtw, you inspired todays mini post on my brand spankin new site. I'm a big fan!

You had me at "Gladwell."
ReplyDelete(Yeah, I'm feeling particularly eagle-eyed this A.M.)
GORG!!!!
ReplyDeleteThose PB pillow covers are AWESOME, and I'm excited you used a bit of my FAVORITE color- BLUE!!! :-)
Layla
I love all the updates. I have followed your blog for almost a year now. You inspire me to look beyond what I see in my house and change it up. I love getting great ideas from your blog. Can you PLEASE do a post on where you get your wicker balls and balls etc. I have been on a hunt for a while.. most of the ones I find are too small and yours are the right size. Oh, and where do you get your clochs? Please message me back on my blog or make a post with all the great info.
ReplyDeleteLove those blue books! Blink is a good one. Have you read it, or are the books just for looks?
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about itching to get out the fall decor items. Like you I make myself wait til Sept. Love all your great touches....and would LOVE to visit a Ballard Outlet. I did not know there were such things. LOVE Ballards. Thanks for sharing your cozy room.
ReplyDeleteI just love your style! Thanks for inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteYour family room looks so very inviting...just the right spot to spend some time chilling! I love that you asked your son's advice on the rug and that he actually pointed out something that made perfect sense...I ask my kids opinion all the time and I can't believe how many times they have really great perspectives on the topic! Janell
ReplyDeleteCan I just say I love it!!! IT looks soooo good! Pillows always make a huge difference. Lovin' the craigslist dresser find too!
ReplyDeleteShannon

Oh-em-geeee I love it. I like that it subtly says fall without the scarecrows. And I may or may not already be working on fall decorations. I don't care what the calendar says, I do what I want :)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks AMAZING! Love the new rug, and the touches of blue really add something special. You have such an amazing eye for decor.
ReplyDeleteJust noticed your ceiling fan looks a lot like our old one. I just replaced ours to a flush mount and it's amazing how it makes the room feel more open. I look at pictures with our old fan hanging down in front of the fireplace and can't believe it took me so long to make the switch!
Love it! You did a great job. Better keep pee cat off that gorg new rug :D
ReplyDeleteFall colors are my all time colors ever regardless of the season. I love your new rug and all the pretty accessory changes you've made. Gorgeous room. Your new pillows are fantastic too. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteAmazing Fall fluff! Your home looks so warm and inviting. I am with you, I can't wait for the pumpkins to apear! You have a great design style and really enjoy your take on the subject.
ReplyDeleteLooooooooovvvvvveeee the new rug! I'm a sucker for anything blue, we have A LOT of blue at our house.:-)The room looks great & ready for fall to be in full swing! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful! Would you share with me where you found that white cabinet behind the sofa? I really need would love that cabinet for my kitchen. Thanks
ReplyDeleteHey! I love the rug and the end table. Been searching Goodwill myself... I have a question that is window covering related…I am wanting to put up curtains in my bedroom. We have a window that is 41 w and a set of french doors that are 79.25 w. They both measure about 96′ from the floor (we have tall ceilings). Because of the height, store-bought panels of 95′ inches will be too short, right? Or is it OK to have the bottom 3-4′ of the door showing?
ReplyDeleteWow - awesome job! Makes me want to plop myself down on the couch with a nice warm blanket and snuggle in.
ReplyDeleteWe have the same "Family" frame. Ours went in our front hallway, surrounded by more black frames with even MORE family pictures. My 10 month old son (as well as my husband and I) loves walking through there and looking at the pictures.
I almost bought some similar PB pillows the other day to add a pop of color to my living room...but I just couldn't bite the bullet. Plus I didn't have any store credit or gift cards. :(
ReplyDeleteLove the way that everything came together though! I have a lot of blue in my house, so I am particularly excited that you took a chance on it in the room. Looks great!!
Beautiful! Actually, I looooooove fall too, and was recently trying to decide whether I want to wait until fall technically starts on the calendar before I decorate or just wait until September. I still haven't decided. But if you do it September 1, and I start seeing lovely harvest-y colors, I may just buckle under the pressure and do it then too. :) Thanks for the inspiration of your living room! My fav part is the mantle! Gorg!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great, Sarah! I love the changes you made. That new rug is absolutely beautiful. And those little touches of blue are great!
ReplyDeleteSeptember is coming. Very, very soon. Hallelujah! I'm holding off a bit on pumpkins, but I am going to start with some of my own fall touches next week. We're a family of redheads, for crying out loud! Fall is the bomb!
What a great room! I love spotting your Southern Living at Home pieces! Are you or were you a cosultant?
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing when I can't decide. I ask my son which one he likes and then I buy that one. It's like a magic 8 ball!
ReplyDeleteThe new changes look great!! You're ready for fall!
Everything looks great! I love the rug! I think I will wait till after labor day to decorate for fall...(isn't that the rule??) We have one more trip to the beach this weekend so I'll leave my seashells up for now!
ReplyDeleteCan I borrow your Dad? Please? He's super talented - I love that refinished table.
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful and gives me MORE ideas! I try to practice restraint as I don't decorate for Autumn until the first day of Autumn. Shant find a pumpkin, mum planted or anything until then. I try and enjoy each season though this summer has been WAY too hot, humid and long. Unfortunately we'll be vacationinng until 10/1 - what's a girl to do? Decorate early!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE everything you have done to this room!! The new rug is amazing. I love the blue accents.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the iron pieces above the fireplace? You have inspired me to decorate a corner alcove that I have had no idea what to do with!!
I wish I knew a decent Goodwill store around me. You always get the best finds!!
yes, I'm trying to hold off with the pumpkins until sept as well, but no later than that!! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's still 110 degrees outside in AZ, so I am not pulling out the pumpkins yet. Actually it's hot until the end of October, and it finally feels like fall in November. It makes me sad, I LOVE fall as well!
ReplyDeleteI know you're so ready for fall, but I'm not ready to say goodbye to summer!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only one who loves, loves, loves fall. And I'm really glad that styrofoam balls wrapped in string and dried plant stems means fall to someone besides me.
ReplyDeleteI haven't started decorating for fall yet. I usually don't until October since that's about when temperatures start routinely dipping under 100 around here. It's hard to crave warm, fall colors when it's 100 degrees outside.
I love everything you did to the room. The colors. The accessories. The furniture placement. I am so inspired. My husband and I will be moving soon and I cannot wait to start decorating.
ReplyDeleteyes, yes, yes, give into the blue!! I fought it for quite a while and I gave in. 1st my Red dining room when Pottery Barn Wedgewood Blue, then my Yellow laundry room went Restoration Hardware Light Silver sage, then my husbands office..... ahhhh it is freeing - I tell ya!!! And I have to say your Craigslist dresser is still my FAVE!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
ReplyDeleteTruly inspirational!! Thanks for some great ideas. Now you have me pulling out all my fall decorations:)
ReplyDeleteMy husband and sister have me by each arm dragging me back from the storage boxes in my garage full of fall stuff. We're big football fans around here so I'm trying to include our team colors around the house, too. I LOVE FALL AND FOOTBALL!
ReplyDeleteIt looks FABULOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your rug! I have the same Pottery Barn pillows and am looking for a rug just like yours. I have one picked out from Pottery Barn just about like yours and it is $379! Do you mind sharing the name brand of yours? Your room really looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amber Beavers
Beautiful room! No pumpkins here yet...but getting close! ;)
ReplyDeleteI really prefer the goodwill table over the beadboard one. In this space, sure, but I think overall I just really like the lines of the GW table. And the table your dad finished---LOVE! The rich tones really work well in this room.
ReplyDeleteOh, and for the record, I'm slowly integrating FALL into my house. Yep, I said it!
Hey, August is more than half-over, right? ;)
Cheers,
Emily
I love the mini redo on your living room, looks great! I went to a Home Goods for the first time last month and feel in love. I wanted everything. I thought they had the best prices on area rugs and I actually picked one out quite similar to the one you purchased. I love your blog and am excited to take some of your ideas and tips and start decorating our new home.
ReplyDeleteMadagascar 2! We love that movie!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of LOVE, I love your family room! The rug...delish! I also really love the little table, and the dark wood finishes you have in there. I have those in my living room too. Nice!
I love the room! The colors really do give you an "Autumn" feel. Its warm and cozy. I LOVE the rug!
ReplyDeleteI've only been following your blog for a few days now, but you sound so much like me! I lurveee fall and it's hard to not want to decorate rightnow!
ReplyDeleteThis --> "Cause styrofoam wrapped with jute SCREAMS fall to me. Is it just me?" has to be the most true statement I've ever heard about jute.
And lastly, I work part-time at Pier 1. Their fall decor hit stores a week or two ago and Halloween hit today (at my store in NY anyway) So, I would definitely keep my eyes open if I were you for some new stuff! I'm in love with like 80 things so far!
:)
M*Mac
I love it! The blue looks great! I get so excited whenever you have a new post. :) Whadda stalker.
ReplyDeleteWhy do I never find great rugs like that at Home Goods. It's perfect for my bedroom. AUGH! Congrats, the room looks lovely and inviting.
ReplyDeleteSarah that rug is the bomb (can I say that?!)! I love the colors! And the way your room looks makes me want to hurry and get my home together for fall! And as for the pumpkins, you only have like a week and a half until September. Girl, throw a pumpkin or two in there;-)
ReplyDeleteCan I come over for coffee?? Love the rug - great choice.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous rug. Love the candlesticks. The whole room looks great!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous rug. Love the candlesticks. The whole room looks great!
ReplyDeleteLove all the changes! The room is gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteLove the new rug! The blue in it is beautiful. The whole room looks great!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the rug and pillows but I have an obsession with painting one of those candle sticks blue.
ReplyDeleteFall is my fav. time of year too. I'm ready to bust out the pumpkins and starting making cider (even though it's a million degrees out). I saw those baskets at Target and thought they were so cute! Great job as always!
ReplyDeleteI love your new room and couldn't agree with you more. It has layers now and looks finished! Dare I make a suggestion the the TDC? I think you need some nice branchy sticks on your mantle. something that is on one side and kinds sweeps across toward the other side. Something to break up that angle. It's just a suggestion, maybe you could try it out with fall foliage and see if you like it. As for fall, hands down my fav time of the year (my birthday is in the fall, is yours? I always wonder if that is the reason why.) My name is Laura and I am a fallaholic! I purchased pumpkins from HobLob in July! I can't wait for September!!! Oh and that rug, I need it for my house, love blue and rusty colors together!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love the carpet and Home Goods is my favorite store.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks great! Love the warmth of the colors and the rug. I love the oregano candlestick. Although I love fall colors, I am not ready to let go of summer yet! Summer is still thriving at my house.
ReplyDelete~ Tracy
I love the new rug- size matters, huh?! :)
ReplyDeleteThe room looks so inviting..great job! Im loving the blue.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty Sarah! I love that rug. Great colors!!!
ReplyDeletexoxo
Jen
Fabulous "make-over"! Love your use of texture. What a great room! (I heart your rug, too.)
ReplyDeletePLEASE PLEASE do tell us the manufacturer and name of the rug. I have looked EVERYWHERE for a rug with brown, red and blue and CANNOT find one. Maybe I can search the web for it if I know the maker. Thanks!! THE ROOM LOOKS GORG!
ReplyDeleteDarn cat! ;D But I do love the new rug. REALLY love it.
ReplyDeleteAnd no pumpkins yet. School starts next week and then I can start focusing on things other than school supplies and summer picnics!
Love all of it, so beautiful - love the warm colors and the addition of the baskets and YES they do scream Fall. Can't wait too get satrted on Fall-ing up my own place! (:
ReplyDeletethe rug, the pillows, the color Oregano...I'm loving it all!
ReplyDeleteOh I love the colors in the rug!! Do you know they are similar to rug I got at the Goodwill Shop and Hop you and Becky hosted in March? Love, love, love that room!
ReplyDeleteAnd the movie... "Madagascar 2".... Love that movie and that quote! Its amusing as we use it in our family a good deal but we only have boys!
Once again the room looks great with the changes (and the Oregano is a wonderful color!!)
You have SUCH a beautiful home!! I can't make a home so warm and inviting. I'm always afraid it will just look cluttered if I try. I love looking at yours.
ReplyDeleteI.WANT.that RUG!!! I love it! Great job, the room looks fresh and fall-ified!
ReplyDeleteCOZY! That room just screams "Snuggle in me!!"
ReplyDeleteBeautiful...as always :0)
ReplyDeletelove the blue in the rug! but whats this about the recalled storage bins? i have one that we use as a toy box- is it going to eat my kids?
ReplyDeleteI.love.that.rug! It's like exactly what I am looking for to use in my living room. The colors are PERFECT! And the price...not too bad either. I have already purchased candlesticks to paint in fall colors to replace my springy/summery turquiose candlesticks. I love the oregano color. Perfect! And yes, I'd say it's definitely warm and cozy. Oh, I haven't gotten out any pumpkins yet but I've been looking online for fall inspiration. :) I am waiting for September 1st to change out my mantel.
ReplyDeleteLooks great... I am so ready for the Summer to Fall changeover too! The new carpet is sooo pretty - I cannot believe that we do not have a HomeGoods store anywhere around us.
ReplyDeleteLove, love the baskets with chalkboard labels from Target - I was just going to pick some up myself! I have been in need of some attractive storage for puppy toys.
Glad to know that I'm not the only one yearning for Fall.
I LOVE this room! Fall is my favorite time of year too! These colors look great together. Your room is so warm and cozy. I would LOVE to know where you got your sofa/loveseat. That is exactly what I am wanting. Beautiful job!
ReplyDeleteI just love this look !!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is amazing :)
I know you like thrifty too...so if you're in a 'coach' bag mood, I have one listed on ebay if you are interested :)
LOVE it!!! My living room's rug has a little bit of teal/blue in it and I had a bright teal pot in the room for awhile. It was a great mix. Teals and blues really brighten up a room. Too bad my big dog broke the teal pot...
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog for a while now...love it! I'm glad that you posting this, because I've been super excited for fall to get here. I'm in Texas, and it's hard to imagine that we'll ever see cooler weather with as hot as it is now. Love the new rug. Great find!
ReplyDeleteHow funny, I bought this rug when I redid our guest room. I LOVE IT. It really anchors the room and adds life and so much color.
ReplyDeleteThey say that great minds think alike... =)
Your home is super GORGEOUS!! I am in love! You have such great ideas! We just bought our first home a few months ago. I love the way you decorate and I'm trying to steal your look! Your home looks so inviting and cozy!! Keep giving us tips and showing us pictures because I can't get enough.
ReplyDeleteP.S.- I am so crazy about fall too. I already have a few ceramic pumpkins out and my autumn wreath on the door! I know I'm a freak, it's still August!
Love it! I love the pillow case.
ReplyDeleteI saw some very much like that at Ikea a while back and am still kicking myself for not buying them.
I love the make-over - the rug is gorgeous - love the blues, love the mantle, love the baskets, love the sideboard, love it all! I just stumbled upon your blog and realized I had marked you on Houzz! and I spotted several of your SLaH pieces (then I read you used to be a consultant) and like you I have quite a collection I still just LOVE. As a Design Consultant for Willow House I am always looking for create ways to use our products and I just can't get over how great the glass dome looks on the barley twist pedestal - amazing! I am so changing out my barley twist for this same look! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to thank you so much for mentioning about the Target rattan basket being recalled. I have one of these (and always hated how they snapped shut!). I just stopped by customer service while at Target and they confirmed it. Hooray for something new for my bedroom!
ReplyDeleteBTW, LOVE your site. I recently discovered it and LOVE LOVE your style and how easy you make this seem. You've inspired me.
I love the rug and your decorating. From the pictures your house looks like a real home! I just scored an 8X11 rug for $62! I have been looking for month. The original cost was $248. I am still in shock.
ReplyDeleteLove the ideas...i just swapped out a *few* things for fall before a brunch I hosted today. (I figured it was a good excuse to put out two - just two - pumpkins and some orange/brown/cinnamon/oregano-y green stuff myself and ease into the fall colors (even if it was 90 degrees by 9 this morning.)
ReplyDeleteLove the rug and blinds (I'm a sucker for textures too.) Great work!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE those PB pillow covers! When I first saw them I said-I MUST HAVE THOSE. Still haven't bought them cause I really want 2! EEK! Tell me is the $80 I will spend really really worth it?
ReplyDeleteLove the room and your faux trim work really makes we want to haul butt to Lowes at 10pm at night to tackle that project first thing in the am!
I love you style. It's very similar to the way I like to decorate, except I always get stuck. What colors are your couch and curtains? I have a brown couch and bamboo shades and am trying to figure out what to do about curtains.
ReplyDeleteI love the rug!!
I LOVE your blog! You have so many fantastic ideas that inspire me to experiment in my home. So, I found your blog early last week and the VERY next day I was watching Nate Berkus and he talked about this blog "Thrifty Decor Chick". I told my hubby, "hey I think that's the blog I found last night!" I immediately got on my computer to check and sure enough...! Love this blog and check it everyday! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my! I'm so glad that Susan at Between Naps on the Porch directed me to this post of yours...I've been agonizing over what to do above my corner fireplace and yours has provided me with tons of inspiration! Please check out my blog when you get a chance http://anaudlife.blogspot.com/ and follow me too if you'd like :) On my sidebar you'll see a photo about my Living Room Makeover, click on the photo and there within that post you will see my fireplace...bare until I gather my ideas and make them into reality. Thanks again!!! Yours is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your ideas! Where did You find the curtains?
ReplyDeleteI really LOVE your blog and I find myself smiling and laughing at the words in your post as much as I do at the pictures. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love you rug!!! I might have to make a trip over to homegoods. We are in the process of buying a new home so i am only in dreaming stages about decorating right now, but i love those pillows too. I just bought some pottery barn pillows. They are gorgeous. Thanks for the inspiration! I have been looking through your blog to get ideas. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteYour home is BEAUTIFUL!Very nicely done, and so well put together!!
ReplyDeleteLove the mantel decor! Mine needs an overhaul, and it's my main priority lately! Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWow, you've done a great job with your family room! I love the warmth of the red pillows against the dark sofas. The touches of red and blue keep the eye moving around the room and yet tie it all together. The whole room looks warm, friendly and homey. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteYour attention to detail is amazing. I am pretty good with the big stuff but I suck when it comes to the details. From reading your posts...it appears that you just accumulate pieces over time. Where ever do you store them. My soon to be DH and I are in a very small townhome and will not be upgrading for two years. I am itching to add a woman's touch around here but I am not sure where to start!
ReplyDeleteDarn those Pee Cats! My Pee Dogs owe me lots of money too! The rug is gorgeous and the pillows are perfect. Always love those crewelwork Pottery Barn pillows! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, I love the rug and the rattan. I have a question. I am thinking of warmer weather and brighter colors. Do you have to live at the beach to decorate your home with a beachy theme? I am loving the darker turquoise I have been seeing lately. Any ideas? I thought of a sisal rug but have never owned one so not sure if I would like it or not.
