Labels make me happy

I’m back today to show you what I’ve been up to with my new favorite crafty tool:
If you’ve read this blog for one hot second, you know I’m a little obsessed with labeling things. I label things that have their items in plain sight – like a basket full of cleaning supplies, I’ll label “cleaning supplies.”
OK. I know. But it’s fun!!
Well, my DYMO label maker is positively sulking in it’s drawer right now. The Silhouette may just take over around here.
It is SO easy it is to use this machine – once you get the software downloaded, it’s just a few steps and you’re cutting away!
The first step (for text anyway) is to get your words on the document, then play around with fonts, sizes, whatever:
When I get a free 30 minutes (which will be in 15 years) I want to just play around with all of the tools to see how they work!
When you are ready to cut, it will take you through a few steps before you can start. One is to specify the medium you are cutting – the Silhouette will tell you which blade cover to use:
It takes about 10 seconds to change out the covers. Then place your paper or vinyl on the mat, click “Cut” and yer done!:
I used the vinyl they included for some of labeling projects, and some store bought vinyl I had as well. I did notice that the store bought vinyl was a bit thicker and needed the deepest blade – the Silhouette vinyl was fine with the most shallow one.
Silhouette provided transfer paper for easy vinyl application – it rocked! It’s just like the stuff that’s on top of vinyl lettering you buy. You place it on top of the vinyl and then use it to stick it to your surface:
And my labeling sickness continues.
Before, the booooring DYMO label:
After -- big, bold and cute vinyl!:
And remember my little chalkboard labels in our pantry? I was getting so tired of the chalk rubbing off every time I grabbed for my Pringles healthy crackers.
So I made some vinyl labels instead (below the cauute labeled jars):
I’m in labeling heaven. :)
This week I declared war on the paper clutter in our house (I’ll tell you more about that soon), so we now have two trash cans in the garage that needed labeling:
Because if we put a recycled item in the shred bin, that would just create extra work. And if a “shred” paper went in the recycle bin, then someone may see our bank statement and see how many Pringles I buy.
And for a fun little treat, just in case my hubby forgets what the small white pellets are in the laundry room:
He’ll be thanking me, I’m sure. :)
Sooo…are you an obsessive labeler like me? Do you label things just to label them? Cause you KNOW it’s cute! (Just look at that jar up there!) Or do you throw caution to the wind and just assume people will know where the trash is? :) Do tell.
I about dropped my red wine on my ivory carpet, girl! Labels in my home? Are you serious? I have labels for my labels! I REALLY WANT THAT SILHOUETTE!!!! ***sniff sniff***
ReplyDeleteI love all of your new and improved labels! I have labels on TONS of stuff around our house, but now I want to make them even cuter. :)
ReplyDeleteOh I love labels too!! I purchased vinyl over two months ago and haven't even used it!! Okay I really need too after seeing your stuff!! Looks fabulous!! That machine is FABULOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never even heard of this and now I NEEEEEDDDD one!
ReplyDeletethe hearts all over the photo made me laugh...
ReplyDeleteOMG, I love it. My life is labels and my Dymo just doesn't do the trick anymore. I HAVE to have one!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling me about it - I will start hinting for Christmas eaarly.
You have NO how much I love to label things....just look at my blog with all my organizing stuff ;) But to label like this is truly a wonderful, fantastic thing!!
ReplyDeleteMy last attempt to label all my sheet in my newly organized closet was a bust. They all popped off just like the Seinfeld episode! I had to tape them on. I would just love to win that magical little toy and make cute labels that really stay put!
ReplyDeleteI heart labels more than any else in my home. I'm hosting We're Organized Wednesday link party. If you have time I would love for you to join. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAny chance you're a Virgo?
ReplyDeleteyes...I'm an obsessive labeler and proud of it :-)
If I win, I will become an obsessive labeler, just like you! And I think that is just what my house needs right now! Maybe then, people might start putting things away!
ReplyDeleteOooohhhh!! I *love* labelling!! Bought the label maker and laughed when I saw the before and after pasta jar shot! Looks so much cuter! And I now just *have* to get a cute jar and label the laundry soap. ;-) Glad to see you are having so much fun with the Silhouette, I really need to play with mine more!!
ReplyDeleteThe world is a happy place when there's a place for everything and everything is in its place...preferably labeled! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my! I want to win that thing!
ReplyDeleteSarah, having a giveaway on MY blog! Drop by! :)
great post! totally made me smile, and want one of these Silhouettes. love the labeled soap for hubby :O)
ReplyDeleteyou rock!
I do love a good label. Your "SOAP" label is my favorite. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks great!! I know I would go crazy with the labeling as well.
ReplyDeleteMy addiction is wanting my kids names or initials on EVERYTHING! I would LOVE to have a Silhouette!
ReplyDeleteCute! Now I need to go by some vinyl and do some labeling with my Cricut. Sadly I only have like 2 fonts because you have to use cartridges with it.
ReplyDeleteI love your jars for flour and sugar - you have inspired me today! Mine are so huge I worry I will drop them one day getting them out. Gonna travel to Container Store today to see about new ones...wish I had that vinyl cutter!!
ReplyDeleteThat is really neat!
ReplyDeleteYou should not be allowed to post porn like that. Some of us are addicts--lol! Been labeling other stuff with the boring labeler here.
ReplyDeleteMy heart did skip a beat when I saw the glass jars and thought about my sadly unlabeled pantry.
Stop it, just stop it! Those labels are so fantastic I can hardly stand it! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome!! I waaannntt one!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteI have an award for you over at Pittypat Paperie :o)
Ok this post did not help me at all. I really want a silhouette!!! I am the queen of labels. My husband brought me home a label maker several years ago and I swear it was the best gift ever!!! Everything just looks prettier with a label : )
ReplyDeleteVinyl makes me swoon....
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteI love labeling! Because it's cute and sometimes it's even functional! Last weekend I made labels to redo my pendaflex folders for my business folders and papers. When I go to file stuff now, it just looks neater {not handwritten} and prettier {I chose a pretty font}. I still have lots more things to label though!

ReplyDeleteSO CUTE! I was not an obsessive labeler until I got my Cricut. Vinyl labeling is too easy and way too cute to pass up.
ReplyDeleteWhere on earth did you get those huge glass jars with the lids? I have small ones from Ikea, but I swear one baking project and I have to refill them. Please make my life easier and tell me where they came from!
No way! I just did this to my soap container...etching :)
ReplyDeleteCheck it out...

I can see you're having a bit of fun :)
Oh my gosh, keep showing us how to use this! I never dreamed it would be this easy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe someday, if I win this silhouette, I could be organized too.
ReplyDeleteI love the iron on transfer...imagining some really cool pillows for my guest room.
ReplyDeleteOk I'm starting to REALLY want one of those. Like, really. A lot.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I'm not the only compulsive labeler out there. I love my little handheld labeler but I think I may give it up for the Silhouette. My husband laughs at me and my labeling, but I think he secretly likes it. Just don't tell him I'm on to him, ok?
ReplyDeleteI bought a Silhouette about a month ago and am IN LOVE with it. I'm in the process of labeling....ummmm...everything I own. :)
ReplyDeleteI HEART labels for my labels! I'm obsessed, too. I love those for your jars, recycle bin, etc. CUTE!!! I'm soooo jealous :)-
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!

Boy, you sure have a way to make me want this machine even more, LOL!
ReplyDeleteLabeling is HEAVEN...AHHHH! I love to label all things! My family thinks I am a little crazy although I have a sibling that is right there loving labels with me!
ReplyDeleteLabels make me happy too so I had to click on over to this post, lol. :) I've been hearing so much about this machine and now I'm thinking I should have got this instead of a cricut. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm SOLD!!! Holy freakin' cow - that thing is the best invention I've seen since the label maker debuted. I.must.get.one.ASAP!
ReplyDeleteNot only am I loving the glass jars, but labeled jars at that!? Who could beat it? I'm a label addict, and yes-- I have a label on my labelmaker. Guilty as charged!
ReplyDeleteI need these!! Every single one of them. All over my house.
ReplyDeleteI'll trade you a year's supply of jewelry for them. Ha!
Badger, badger. Over and out.
can u say canister labels? love them! that would probably be my fave design in the quick look i took. love the idea of lots of font choices too.
ReplyDeleteWould LOVE to win!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!! I big, puffy, pink heart LOVE your soap jar! It's super cute. I have one just like it and now I know what I will do with it.
ReplyDeleteLove those big labeled jars for sure!
ReplyDeleteI am a label fanatic, too!!! I LOVE this post!! I think I need one of those fancy, shmancy label makers myself!!!
ReplyDeleteGotta go label something.....
Ok, really? I haveto get this thing, it has so many damend uses. LOL! I just wish it were cheaper.
ReplyDeleteOh SWOON! I love labeling everything. My fav is the DYMO clear labels... but this. Oh my.
ReplyDeleteYou might find this funny but I gasped when I saw your pasta jar! Different pastas mixed together - WHAT?! I had to laugh at myself... I have mine in all their own jars but I'm anal like that! :)
And I thought my Brother label maker was cool...have to have one of these babies!
ReplyDeleteWho knew there were other lover of labels out there!?! I especially like color coordinated ones.... :)
ReplyDeleteOk, the first thing I would use it for is labels in my newly redone kitchen pantry!!
ReplyDeleteNow that my daughter is learning letters and words, I so want to make labels for her various toy bins. Yes, I am a labeler - I think I am an OCDer when it comes to making life more simple. :)
ReplyDeleteIs there such a thing as a Labeling Addiction?..if so I am coming clean and yelling to the rooftops.. I am Natalie, and I am addicted to my label maker. And simply drooling over a silhouette machine.
ReplyDeleteI share your affliction with labeling everything in site. I even moved it outside, I want some vinyl numbers for my mailbox.
ReplyDeleteOooooh, I label everything! I just can't contain myself thinking about all the different way I can cleverly label all my stuff. Please, please let me win!
ReplyDeleteLove it. Love what you have done with it. Wish Canadians were eligable to enter to win it :(
ReplyDeleteBut... enjoy it :)! Love all your tips etc. Thanks!
I love to label everything I can, but my little brother labeler can't do that cute lettering! I LOVE it!! I so want one of those now!
ReplyDeleteLabels and Lists. My TWO most favorite things!
ReplyDeleteI remember when my husband and I started dating and he discovered my obsession with the two. He has gone thru a few stages from thinking it's silly and cute (beginning dating) to being absolutely annoyed (a few years into marriage) to now not even noticing my obssesion (10 years after marriage!).
Everyone needs labels and lists in their life!
I am huge labeler and list maker! I love this thing! If I don't win it (fingers crossed) I may have to buy it!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the soap jar, I use liquid but I may have to buy some powdered detergent just to do this and it will just be decoration!! =) hehe
I heart labels too!
ReplyDeleteI love comments but I don't have that many of them at my house. I do have a large bread box on my counter that says BREAD in big letters on it. I can't tell you how many times people have asked me where my bread is...it cracks me up
ReplyDeleteI just stumbled upon your blog today and it is EXACTLY what I have been looking for!!! I LOVE the labels! So much more classy than the dymo (I have a Brother P touch) Have decided to try your blackboard idea too, I buy excess food when on special and store it in another pantry, as its constantly moving in and out I think the blackboards would be a great idea for labelling here.
ReplyDeleteTHANKYOU!!!! Susan
Wow I love all the jars and such that you were able to label. It made me so excited to think that I could too! I LOVE organizing and labeling things. I looked at all the things that the little gadget could do and it would great a whole nother world of fun for me!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, this is my first time on your blog and am loving what I am seeing!
Noooooooooooo! This thing is sooocool you HAVE to send it to me in Australia! *sobs* I want it!
ReplyDeletePlease, Please with a cherry on top...I really NEEEEED this.
ReplyDeleteI love labels, too, and they're great in my classroom to help teach reading! (I teach first grade.) Thanks for the hot tip!
ReplyDeleteThis machine could be very dangerous in the hands of a label a holic such as myself.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a post today in which I layed open my heart. I hope you will stop by and read it. If it moves you, please feel free to share the dream.

ReplyDeleteForgot to ask: where do you get all your CUTE jars????????????
ReplyDeleteWhat a great giveaway! I love that you can use your own computer to create the labels, instead of buying cartridges for a Cricut.
ReplyDeleteOh My Word! I had never hear of this one. I had heard of the Cricut and have wanted one since I first heard about it. The Silhouette is AMAZING. I just moved to a new home and have a long list of vinyl wall decor that I want. The first thing I would so is a monogram for over my bed. I really want this Silhouette...fun fun!
ReplyDeleteYour labels are super duper cute!
ReplyDeleteI have been making my own labels by creating stencil and painting on them.... very time consuming. This is so much easier!
ReplyDeleteSeriously?!?! A Silhouette giveaway?! It's my dream to have a Silhouette but the price...and my budget... it remains a dream. But oh, the crafts I'd do if I had one! Labels, scrapbooks, decorations, oh my! So, needless to say, I'm very excited about this giveaway!!!!
ReplyDeleteOK, I went to the Silhouette website and I think the first thing I'd do is some Vinyl Decor projects - I love all their ideas! My kids definitely NEED cute wall art!!
ReplyDeleteHow cute are those downloadable designs?!?! I think I'd do the "More Sugar than Spice" for the kitchen - super cute!
ReplyDeleteIf you replace the green plastic laundry scoop with a ( sturdy )vintage tea cup- you will smile each time you scoop a cup to do the laundry! I did this & love to see it each time I pass by it or do the wash. : )
ReplyDelete~Sara
I love how you label everything. I need to do that with the garbage cans here. People seem to forget which one is for recycling and we always have to clean out the stuff that doesn't belong in the recycling bin. I love it all!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! I don't have a Silhouette, but I think I can get my Cricut to pull off some of these. Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteOk Sarah, I hope I didn't just commit a blogging faux pa here but I dropped a couple of links to your blog/talking about the silhouete to a card making forum where I frequent. You can see it here: http://www.cardmakermagazine.com/cardswap/index.php/topic,2071.0.html
ReplyDeleteI meant to compliment you; I hope that's your impression too.
I love labels! I love your label maker tool! OMG!

I have owned a Silhouette machine for a year now. I used it a bit for scrapbooking but after seeing all of the magic it can do with vinyl I'm going to give it a go too! Like you, I'm a label addict. Yup, I'd label my kids if the labels didn't wash off! I label things that don't even need labelling b/c I just have that need. :) Looking forward to seeing what else you use the Silhouette for!!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the font on the laundry soap container!! Any chance you know what it's called?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
