Ten Pretty DIY Fall Door Decor and Wreath Ideas

Ten beautiful DIY fall decor and wreath tutorials!
I've created SO many beautiful DIYs for our fall front doors and porches over
the years, so I gathered them all to share here. This is a good mix of wreaths
and floral-filled containers that are just as pretty!
Most of these can be taken apart and easily reused for a different season or
new look next year.
DIY pumpkin wreath
This is one of my all time favorite fall wreaths! I LOVE the color and
little details added throughout on this
colorful DIY pumpkin wreath:
This one is made with a grapevine wreath as a base, so it's easy to change
out every year if you want.
DIY pumpkin patch wreath
This is another cute one I call a pumpkin patch wreath because the little
faux pumpkins are nestled into the greenery.
The
ribbon on this sweet pumpkin wreath
is the perfect finishing touch:

Metal bucket with fall florals
My favorite door decor is my Southern Living at Home container and use it
almost year round -- I love how one piece works for all seasons by just
changing out the filler.
For the fall, I have used the same "stuff" year to year, but every year I
seem to end up adding more to it.
The only items I use are my container, faux fall florals and a block of floral foam:
I just pull the whole thing out of the container every year, put it in a
baggy and store it away.
When I put it out, I just pop it back in the container and fluff like mad.
Oh yeah, and stick more "things" in:
This arrangement is everything I love about this time of year. Those
colors and textures look lovely on our front door:
Using garland for a DIY wreath
I saw a beautiful, burgundy leaf wreath at Target a couple of years ago that
I fell in love with. Turns out they had a matching garland that was
much cheaper.
Using a grapevine wreath, I wrapped and tucked the fall garland around till
it was nice and full:
See this fall foyer tour here. |
I can't even tell you how many times I've used that grapevine wreath over
the years! I use it for every season, over and over!
That garland isn't available at Target anymore, but this
pretty dogwood garland
is very similar.
Paper flower fall wreath
This DIY fall craft may not be the best idea if your front door gets hit
with the elements, but it would look lovely on the inside of a door!
I love the colors on this
fall flower wreath made with colorful cardstock:
A pantry or garage door would be perfect for this one.
Fall "pocket" door decor
The next door idea is one I am really loving, and it took me all of ten
minutes. I had another hanging metal container in the basement that I
haven't used for years.
It thought it was too bright white for most of my fall decor:
So I took my walnut stain, and dry brushed it on to highlight the raised
areas.
It kind of smudged onto the other areas, but I ended up loving the look
and kept doing it all over:
I stuffed a bit of foam in (just cut it with a knife if it doesn't
fit):
I snipped
a leaf garland
apart into sections and just stuffed them into the floral foam:
Because, I can't leave well enough alone, I wrapped some bronze fall
ribbon around the hanger:
And ended up with this pretty cream metal pocket full of fall flowers:
Shut the front door, I love it.
Fall felt wreath
This one took forever but was super cute! I shared the tutorial for this
fall felt flower wreath here:
If I ever have the time to sit and cut out the felt for hours again, I
would do it a bunch of warmer colors. I think that would be so
pretty!
Fall floral hanging vase
This arrangement started with another hanging container I had in my
decor stash. I gave it a quick coat of brown spray paint:
Then picked up some beady/grassy picks from the craft store:
And the most adorable
pom pom looking florals
as well:
And just stuffed and stuffed (notice a theme here?).
I found a couple feathery picks from Hobby Lobby and threw those in
too:
There is no rhyme or reason to it -- just arrange till you like it!
To hang this, I took a
cheap metal wreath hook, straightened it out, then hot glued the ribbon over it:
Dollar store DIY fall wreath
This
square fall wreath is one of my all time favorite fall DIYs! I made it
with pretty faux leaves from the dollar store:
The large crepey leaves were so easy to attach to the foam
board. They had some wire in them so they were easy to move
around.
This gorgeous wreath only cost me a few bucks to make!
My finishing touch is always to add some felt pads to the
back off all my containers or wreaths, so they don't scratch
up the door:
Don't forget you can hang these on the inside of
your front door, so you have something lovely to look at
on the way out. :)
Do you have something you can use to create a DIY fall
arrangement? Stuff some leaves or pumpkins or floral
pics in and you can't go wrong!
You don't always need to purchase new to make your home
warm and cozy this time of year.

Ooooh Sarah, I ♥ LOVE ♥ them all!! Seriously. Love.
ReplyDeleteLove the first one!
But I can't choose a favorite. I love them all. I'm unna hafta get me one of those Southern Living At Home containers. And can your step mom give me one of those containers too?? :)
♥ ya girl!
I love every single one of them!!! Ashely at makeitandloveit.blogspot.com has a super cute basket that she just made for next to her door that I am loving too...Its also on ucreate....Super cute...Love the fall colors!
ReplyDeleteI too have that SLAH container on BOTH my front door and the door from the garage. I love the arrangement you did in it and might have to borrow some of your ideas. I got tired of ours clanging everytime we used the door so I used Command Adhesive strips to keep it in place on the door.
ReplyDeleteMan Sarah! these are great! And each one is so different from the next ! I like it!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! And OMG - Such good thinking with the felt backing. Anything on my door seems to be hanging by a thread (half the time it probably IS) and therefore, always clatters against the door. I'm definitely going to try this next time!
ReplyDeleteI love those, wow! I can probably dig up quite a few things around here to create an arrangement.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to let you know I've nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award. Your blog is one of my favorites!
I absolutely love wall pockets like these and all yours are gorgeous! I love to do easy arrangements where you just stick stuff in!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of covering a cheap metal hanger with ribbon! Brilliant way to dazzle it up!
ReplyDeletewonderful ideas. and i have some of those things myself!!
ReplyDeletelove the tin on the medallion piece. sure jazzes the 'thingy' up. =0)

Thank you so much for reminding me to decorate the INSIDE of my front door. Everything looks wonderful and makes me long for weather under 100 degrees!
ReplyDeleteSarah I love your style you are doing everything fantastic I am always being jealous all your decorating ideas...
ReplyDeleteI'm so loving the ribbon on the metal hanger idea! Plus the felt on the back.
ReplyDeleteWow, covering the over-the-door hanger with ribbon is SUCH a genius idea! Those things are so useful but so ugly...
ReplyDeletelove all your arrangements! I "starred" this one in Google Reader :)
pretty ideas! I am a SLAH junkie too, I love their items. The makeover you did on the white piece looks so good.
ReplyDeleteFabulous ideas, thank you!
ReplyDeleteOh I love them all!!!! I was hoping to get my fall items out this past weekend but that didn't work out so well!! but you've inspired me to do a couple new things this year!!! :-) Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteSarah I LOVE these! I SO wish I had some wall pockets! I have tons of fall florals - hopping I can start pulling some of it out later this week!
ReplyDelete~TidyMom
You're so much fun! lol

The Blue Ridge Gal
I truly love them all, but that first one stole my heart. Now I want to make some.
ReplyDeleteYour arrangements are all so professional looking! They are beautiful and look great in your home. Your blog is such an inspiration to me!
ReplyDeleteDo you have any suggestion for a massive like nine foot door? All of the hangers look like mini- on a door like mine. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I've been meaning to find a few of these containers for months! Do you know the best place to find these? Hobby Lobby?
ReplyDeleteHey Sarah! I LOVE them all and usually not a "Fall" fanatic, but I have been the last couple of years. I am working on collecting decor. I LOVE the wreath and other door decor. Do you have a 'fix' for the metal wreath hanger so it doesn't scratch the door? I recently painted mine so I don't want anymore damage unless I know replacement time is coming soon. Will you please email me? mrwhitecotton@sbcglobal.net. I follow, but don't seem to ever get back to see responses. You may have already answered to someone else, but like I said ... 'free' time is hard to come by for me. I would really appreciate it. ~Mandie
ReplyDeleteWonderful. I love every one of them. Fall has arrived at your home.
ReplyDeletePam
I did a half cornucopia/horn thingy for my front door thinking it would be thin enough since I have a storm door. Didn't happen ~ the door won't close. I have to find somewhere else to hang it now and I'm thinking by the garage door (which is the one we always use anyway). Just printed out Michaels coupons so I'll be making yet another trip there to get something similar to what you used as a container. Love the way you added ribbon to the holder.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteomg. amazing! lurve lurve them all! i need to go digging in my basement. wait. i don't have a basement. well, i'll just come over to YOUR basement and rummage around to find another containter that your stepmom gave you, i'll steal that. :)
ReplyDeleteyou put me right in the mood to do a door hanging, and believe it or not, i have never done one so i guess a trip to hob lob and joanns is on my plate for the week cuz i need some thingys and jobbies. :)
♥ awesome stuff!
very pretty! My husband absolutely detests any sort of fake greenery, though. If you have any suggestions for door decor that doesn't involve such things, I sure would love to see it, because I have no idea what to do!
ReplyDeleteI litterally laughed out loud at your new saying "shut the front door" HAHA! Love it! Great tip w/ the felt pads, love all the arrangements!
ReplyDeleteClearly I NEED a basement......I could use the space! YOur containers look uber-FAB......you just have such a great eye for gorgeous! ;)
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
totally random, but in your one picture where you painted the brown onto your planter..the room in the background..can you share that paint color? it looks like a neutral shade of green, am I wrong? I LOVE IT! (begs) lol
ReplyDeleteI love them all! And thingys and jobbies are so words! ;)
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of those metal tin pocket baskets which I have picked up at thrift stores. I will copy your idea of covering the hanger with ribbon, and I'll line the back with felt.
ReplyDeleteI wennt to the Dollar Tree and bought so many beautiful Fall flowers and did this to some canisters around my apartment. I'm going back for more today. I want to do this for my front door! I love getting ideas from you. My place had been tansformed into something lovely.
ReplyDeletethank you :)
Gorgeous fall hangings. I have a question. What do you use to hang a wreath on both sides of a door? I have decorations hanging on our front door, service door and garage entry door, but I'd love to have some thing hanging on the inside as well. I've only ever seen one sided metal door hangers. My doors are metal so I can't do the ribbon/thumbtack trick.
ReplyDeleteSarah, Sarah, Sarah......oh girl, you know how to make my heart flutter with ideas of fall colored flowers on my door! I cant wait to try some of these out! :)
ReplyDeleteThe felt pads are genius. I only have a million of those sitting in my drawers waiting to be used. Everything you do looks great....and you make it look so easy!
ReplyDeleteCute projects . . . as usual!!! When do yo sleep??? ;o)
ReplyDeleteI especially love the first arrangement. I hate autumn colors and love that your first item has a PURPLE flower. How nice to see something other than orange.
ReplyDeleteI just love your creativity! I can't wait until I own a house and have room to decorate.
ReplyDeleteI knew I should have bought that white thingy that I didn't know what it was a coupld of weeks ago at a yard sale. It looked like a large trashcan smashed in. Could have spray painted it and put fall foilage in it. Next time I won't pass a find up. The two men probably would have taken a dollar or less for it.
ReplyDeleteThese are too great! And you are too funny...what does spell check know anyway??
ReplyDeletePS I'm having a GIVEAWAY! Stop by and enter if you get a chance, I'd love to know what you think about my designs!
I just want to come live with you! Your house is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteLuuuurve the walnut stain on the white one!!!!
ReplyDeleteMore great ideas! Thanks for posting--my favorite is the last one :)
ReplyDeleteJust got in from my Nashville trip and had to swing by to see what you've been up to. :) You were busy!!! I have that bright white SLAH bucket, and I love what you did to yours with the stain. Great tip about the foam pads too...very cool! :)
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOSH!! You are not going to believe this, I have the white SLAH container and this morning I looked at it and thought I should give it a darker makeover! It is in my bathroom and has been for yrs and I'm sooo tired of it. I almost fell off the couch when I saw your post! Now I have an idea of what to do! As always you are AWESOME and apparently a psychic too!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. You always have the best ideas.
ReplyDeleteI just love your blog. I dont read many but I do read yours on a regular basis. You are inspiring and I thank you for that. You will go far girl. Good luck on the home show, GO GET EM!!!

ReplyDeleteYou're SO inspiring TDC!!
Tiffany @ Mine Are Spectacular
Why oh WHY is the inside of your front door not painted?? You're killin' me.
ReplyDeleteFelt pads = brilliant. Way better than duct tape. Which does, for the record, pull of paint.
Hi Sarah! Do I have to pick just one? I love them all! You've done a great job getting into Fall!
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
great job sarah! i love them all!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou have such great ideas, and I love your pictures. I especially love that you hang something on the inside of the door just like the outside. Looks great! I'm linking this to my blog. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThese look so awesome! I think I need more doors...
ReplyDeleteYou are too clever by half. A little stain, a little spray paint, a little thingy ... voila. All masterpieces! Happy Autumn.
ReplyDeleteLove them all!!! And, as you know...since I am a huge SLAH fan...I own both as well. Thanks for the inspiration. Totally loving what you did with the white flower bucket!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the purple in it! People don't incorporate enough purple into fall decor! I love those ideas, keep 'em coming!
ReplyDelete~WOW! These are all awesome! Love the slim shape of the last one. Very cool! :)
ReplyDeleteToday, you are my hero!! I've been trying to find some inexpensive ways to spruce up our house for the fall. I had a couple laughs this weekend because now I offically know you've into my head. One, I had the great idea to spray paint the tops of the rubbermaid containers that store our snacks in the kitchen. Oh course I had to do this while I was making dinner. Goodbye strange powder blue tops, hello chic black top covers. Two, I was in in the mart tonight (walmart) and found a decorative curtain rod in the clearence aisle marked down from $22 to $2.50!! Not only was it totally thrifty, but it'll be seeing a nice coat of spray paint come this weekend! Thanks for your tips. Love the blog :)
ReplyDeleteOh good grief woman is there nothing you can not do??? Awesome!
ReplyDeleteSarah, I enjoy your blog so much I gave you a little blog award, you can check it out on my blog at
http://dogmomdiva.blogspot.com/
keep up the awesome ideas!!

I love all these!! What a great idea to hang one on the inside of the door!! I need to find another hanging basket for the inside!!! The ribbon on those yucky wreath hangers was another clever move!!

ReplyDeleteHello~I've just strolled into your blog for my first visit...I've enjoyed taking a peek at your past posts. What beauty! You've got so many wonderful treasures.
ReplyDeleteThe one thing that can cheer me up as I watch summer come to a close is... the anticipation of fall and all the autumnal colors that come with it and the inspiration it provides for creating decor like your florals. That are a lot less expensive than a florist would charge, but with the same professional look.
I've bookmarked you in my favs.
I look forward to coming by your charming blog again.
Come by for a visit. Your company would be nice.
Sweet wishes,
Sara
Yay...I love reusing and repurposing things. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. I like them all, and the felt pads are a good tip. I'll have to put some on mine!
ReplyDeleteThese look so pretty! And you look so pretty! I like your new profile picture!
ReplyDeleteI love the white SLAH door hanger. Maybe someday I can look creatively at things...that is my hope!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I love what you've created! You inspired me to take a trip to Michael's this morning and pick up some things to try out (since I didn't have any handy containers lying around).
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to ask, where do you get your gorgeous metal wall art? I love the one that you put the "new" container with leaves on!
Uhm, I THINK the actual spelling is "thingies." HaHa!
ReplyDeleteLove, love, LOVE the idea of hot gluing pretty ribbon to the door hook. GENUIS!
I don't have too many things like this running around, mostly cuz the cats will eat them, but very cool ideas. (And, if peeps don't have them running around, wait for those clearance, end-of-season sales.)
You win!
LOVE these! Great idea!
ReplyDeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteI came over from Kimba's and I really enjoyed your blog. I love decorating as well. You did a great job on the wreath and all the floral containers. They were
all beautiful.
Look forward to reading more.
Blessings, Nellie
I'm going to have to start digging through my stuff to see what I can fill! Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI always love all your creative ideas and thrifty ways!! Just fabulous.
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever, these are adorable!
ReplyDeleteSarah guess what?! I just got back from garage sailing and I found a FAB wall pocket!!- similar to the last one you posted, but no hanger on it - so I have to figure out how I'll hang it on my door - after I paint it black and fill it with fall goodies!!
ReplyDeleteany suggestions how to hang it? it has 2 little hooks on the back to hang on a wall
Thanks!!
~TidyMom
Squeal! I found that SLAH container at a yard sale this weekend and snapped it up for $5. Now I can be just like Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI love them both... Great ideas and inspiration... I always look foward to seeing what you come up with next!!!! Happy Monday to you!!
ReplyDeleteI have a favorite way to hang wreaths on doors. I take a thumb-tack, the metal kind with a flat head, and push it into the top of the door. Then I take fishing line and make a long loop...I loop it around the tack and through whatever kind of hanger is on the wreath. I hang wreaths on my interior doors, and my front door. You can't see the fishing line..and if it can hold a 20# fish (my husband was dreaming) it can hold my nice wreath! The flat-head tacks don't rub when you close the door, they are nice and smooth and not in the way.
ReplyDeleteLove it! So much I have been looking for a basket similar to yours and I finally found one and created my own basket and linked your post!

It's been years since you have posted these pictures and instructions. Thank you! These are lovely ideas and I can't wait to get started.
