Quick rose petal Valentine's Day wreath

I had grand plans to make a fluffy Valentine's wreath this year, but I'm on a self-imposed spending freeze.
Well, let's just say thaw...
I envisioned a full and beautiful red wreath made with a bunch of red flowers, but when I figured how much I would need, the price was getting a little ridiculous.
I thought about what I could use instead, and realized rose petals would make this Valentine's wreath much more affordable.
I grabbed a box of faux red rose petals and also got teeny tiny push pins so I wouldn't burn the tips of my fingers off with the glue gun:
After about half an hour and half a bag of chocolate later:

The red looks awesome on our dark door and from the street! I still have half a box of rose petals left, so I may keep adding to fluff it up more.
AND it was CHEAP!

Great and thrifty idea. I Love it! Red is my favorite color.

The red does look nice. And you can add more cr*p to it next year!
ReplyDeleteI am on a spending freeze myself. Christmas always makes me feel poor in January.
You've given me the urge to put something red on my front door. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYours looks very pretty!
I'm on a spending thaw too. Your wreath does look nice, the red is so pretty. I'm sure your front door looks fantastic!

What a cute idea...so simple yet elegant!
ReplyDeleteValentine Quickie...that just sounds so "bad" ; )
ReplyDeleteI've got loads of white rose petals left over from my wedding. Maybe a white wreath is in order for me.
ReplyDeleteI still gotta get my post together for the party! I've been away from the computer for a few days. Can't wait to go see what others posted!
what a great idea! You are so crafty and full of wonderful ideas!
ReplyDeleteThat is sooo cute. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteI like it! And now I really want to paint my front door black! Which would go great with my house. And that red just looks great. Makes me want to make one! Maybe in a monogram. :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great!
ReplyDeleteOHH! I love it! I saw petals at the dollar store the other day, and now I am SO going back to get some!! Very cute. And the words on your door are beautiful!

Ok, I hope that I don't sound psychotic saying this....but I love you! I told my husband that it is pretty pathetic when you love somebody you've never met! I have spent many nights up until 2 and 3 in the morning scouring you blog for ideas! My husband is in law school, so our budget is sooo tight. I love to decorate, but had kind of given up on because of the money it would cost. You have inspired me. I feel like I can still have a beautiful home. Thank you!

Great idea and very pretty! I bet that really stands out from the street. As usual loving your ideas. Hugs, Bobbi Jo
ReplyDeleteI think it looks gorgeous, especially against the black door!
ReplyDeleteI can do that and I plan on it! Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteHow adorable! I just used my berry wreath from Christmas and stuck a Heart in the middle of it! I saw a huge box of rose pedals at the dollar tree and wondered what I could do with them- great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love that your ideas are so simple almost anyone can do them! Thanks for sharing this great idea.
ReplyDeleteI literally stumbled onto your blog this evening ... and when I was leaving a comment, looked up and saw Elizabeth's face - a face I actually recognized! I will visit again....nice post today and great, great idea for a wreath.
ReplyDeleteI was going to write just what Elizabeth wrote! What a simple craft but so pretty! Please continue to post your wonderful ideas ~ they are so inspiring! Thank you!

Sarah, it looks great! I love the red against the black door.
ReplyDeleteBeautimus!
Oh so cute! I am so impressed and am also happy to hear you've figured out a way to avoid those glue gun burns! :)
ReplyDeleteCarrie
Sarah, this is so cute! I love it.
ReplyDeleteVery cute wreath. Don't fear the glue gun silly girl. Glue guns are our friends! Here are several tips for you to keep you from getting burned again. First of all-- use an old magazine under your glue gun so the excess can drip onto it, whenever it gets glue build up, tear off a page and start another. Each time you pick up your glue gun to use it, drag the tip across the page to wipe off the glue. That is the glue that is super "drippy" You then have to squeeze the trigger to place the glue where you need it-- I always touch the surface and drag the tip off of the project as well-- keeping excess glue from dripping and burning. Also, if ever you get any glue on yourself, wipe it off imediately onto part of that magazine and you won't blister. I sometimes take off excess glue on purpose with my finger tip without burning myself at all by doing this :-) Now, get back onto that horse with glue gun in hand girlie!
ReplyDeleteI too have cleaned out three closets. I was looking for a cheap wreath as well and use styrofoam and sheet moss. Worked out pretty well.
ReplyDeleteLove it! very cute.. I hope your fingers heal...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I've been looking for ideas for my front door for Valentine's Day this year. I think I found it! Thanks
ReplyDeleteI think it looks AAMMMAAAZZIINNG!! (in my singing voice!)
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is the cutest thing I've ever seen. My mission this week: take a trip to Michael's!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Good idea to use the pins - I ALWAYS burn myself on the hot glue and it would just go right thru those petals!
ReplyDeleteManuela
Oh, I just love your wreath, and it looks great against the black door. Our front door is black, too, and I'm thinking I just might make one of these wreaths.
ReplyDeleteI am cleaning out my craft closet, thanks to your challenge! I've linked it to your site.
Thank you!

ReplyDeleteGreat, now I have to go and make a wreath for Valentine's Day! (grin!) Love your idea! That'll make the Princess Nagger happy, she nagged me into getting some decorations for Valentine's Day...if I add a wreath she'll be very happy...(grin!)
ReplyDeleteI love it! It turned out great. I like the Welcome on the door, is that vinyl?
ReplyDeleteThat turned out great! The red just pops against the black door.
ReplyDeleteI also love the Welcome lettering. I would love to know what font that is or where you got it from.
Thanks! Kim
Ok, so you know I'll steal this idea of yours, right? ;) It looks great!

ReplyDeleteCaa-uute! I have the day off (kid free!!) so I plan on doing a few little projects I saw on your site. EXCITED!!!
ReplyDeleteP.S. the Cool Whip in a can tastes exactly the same as Cool Whip from the tub.
Uhm yeah, I definitely LOVE this project! AWESOME! I might have to actually do this one instead of just drooling at yours over my keyboard :P
ReplyDeleteThat's really cute :) I haven't really decorated for V-day before, but this is so inexpensive that I may have to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI think the word freezing "thaw" is my favorite thing I have heard all day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic wreath. It pops nicely on your door! And that wasn't real chocolate--pretzels, and they are good for you, right?

Love this idea. Good lookin wreath. i just finished cleaning my pantry and one of my kitchen cabinets. Now I will be cleaning and organizing some more of my kitchen cabs.
ReplyDeleteOk. Have to admit- before I scrolled down, I thought this project was going to turn out looking really cheap and silly. But, you amazed me yet again! That is so stunning! I'm going to do it.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed my visit here today!
ReplyDeleteWOW how the heck did I miss this? Awesome I am lovin the red!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out lovely! Great idea.
ReplyDeleteI love your wreath. May have to try one.
ReplyDeleteSaw your wreath today on "One Pretty Thing". Cute! I'd love to make a heart shaped one, but I'm not sure if I could find one or not. I saw red rose petals today at the dollar tree, and they had wreaths, too! So you could do the whole project for $2! I love reading your blog :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I saw it on OPT as well and I can't wait to try it, maybe even for more than one holiday!
ReplyDeleteThat's really pretty. Nice idea! :)
