Tour our chocolate brown powder room

I thought a break from our regularly scheduled programming (that would be Christmas craft hysteria) would be good. I realized the other day I never posted final pictures of my powder room redo.
You can see the before there -- I definitely needed a change. Chocolate brown was the answer, and of course...molding. (Obsessed, I tell ya!!) I added the crown, the chair rail and the squares. The chair rail is not the right height, but I had to put it at the same height as my original chair rail. Which was my first stab at molding, four long years ago, so let's just say, it was not good.
I painted the ceiling brown as well, because I wanted the molding to POP. It worked. Love it. I put a coat of shimmer paint over the brown. Love it more.
These are raised off the wall. Can I tell you how much professional faux painters will charge you to do these? Let's just say a lot. I mean, fall off your seat, A LOT. I will do a tutorial to show you how easy they are soon...
I showed you this here:
But I need something over the toilet. Ugh, that word is just yuck. Toilet. Let's say potty. OK, not much better. Anyhoo, I found the shelf at Hobby Lobby, the rocks at Pier 1, and the candles at Target:
The candles needed something, so I found these rub ons at Micheal's and it added the little flair I wanted. But now I can never light these. Brilliant:
The mirror was chipped and was a deal at Homegoods for $12. Painted it with my bronze paint, and tadaaaa:
Shhhh...this is where I keep the magazines. I know you have magazines in your bathroom!!! Don't lie!
I want to change out the faucet too...but I'm worrying that it's getting a little too bronzey/brown in there. I thought of adding pop of color somewhere but I also really like just the brown and white. I guess it will evolve like everything in our house.

ABSOLUTELY GORGOUS! I love it and all of the detail! Super classy looking.
ReplyDeleteWow - this looks totally amazing. I LUV molding too it can really just make a space can't it? I love all the details you added. Great job. I too hate the word TOILET - blah - I am a designer we call them lavatories. But then on the Floor plan we just put "Toilet Room....my main concern is when the word urinal has to be said - there is NO word I avoid more. Even typing it made me cringe. I am sure you just cringed when you read it. How can you not? Ugh.
ReplyDeleteYou can totally light those candles... just let them burn down enough to add a tealight into them and from then on burn the tealight. When its done, pull out the little metal part from the tealight and add another one. :)
ReplyDeleteoh wow- I wish I had the talent! I love your blog! you can come by mine sometime but is nothing like yours!
ReplyDelete♥ your le toilette!
ReplyDelete♥Jen
You are so talented! I LOVE this!
ReplyDeleteWhere on earth did you find those steps? I love a multi-tasker, but there's no way they'd fit in my bathroom.
I totally love your style and can't wait to have a house to do make overs! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove this bathroom! I especially love the molding & the flower pot pretending to be a trash can. So cute!
ReplyDeleteLove the chocolate brown! Whenever I am working with someone who is afraid of color I suggest that we do the powder room in something they would normally never choose, I like to do the ceiling in these little spaces too. I have done a lot of red powder rooms and even a beautiful eggplant...no one has ever regretted it...yet!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I love your bathroom! The brown with the molding just pops. I am so excited to see how you did the stencils! I am having a love affair with brown, now you made me obsessed! Great job!
ReplyDeleteWow, your bathroom is amazing...you are one talented lady.
ReplyDeleteStop over to visit me some time!
Absolutely beautiful!! You did a great job!!!
ReplyDeleteGOSH ITS BEAUTIFUL!!!! I want my own house WAAAAAAAH!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow funny...My powder room is the same color AND I also painted the ceiling AND I also use a flower pot for the garbage can!!! Maybe we're long lost sisters. :) I think I might steal your molding idea though.
ReplyDeleteChocolicious! Can't wait to see more projects! I linked you the other day in my post. My pile of receipts looked oh so similar to yours. Love me some TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, Ross, and Marshalls.
ReplyDeleteOooo I love it. And thanks so much for sharing a room painted BROWN. I am hoping to paint our powder room a shade of brown, probably not such a pure brown and was a little scared. First I need to get a new light fixture and towel holder. Did you have one of those large mirrors that is glued to the wall? I have one but would like to get rid of it and put a framed one up. I wonder if it is hard to pull that baby off? I am looking forward to the tute on the raised painted stencil things. And I wanted to put a shelf above the toilet too, but I like what you did better than what I even had in mind! And the waste basket, what a great idea! Why didn't I think of that? I already used a cute pail in our kids bathroom for a waste can to add to a kind of nautical theme. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I now have the guts to do this...
ReplyDeleteLove the brown! I love the corner helpers even more. I think I'm going to make hubby use them to finish the trim in our bathroom. Mitered corners are not his "thing"
ReplyDeleteI think I died and went to chocolate brown bathroom heaven. This is GORGEOUS! We are hoping to redo our bathroom this spring and I've been looking for all kinds of inspiration. Awhile back I wanted chocolate brown...but wasn't sure if I could pull it off bc the walls/hallways and a couple of rooms are a darker taupey brown...almost grayish brown. I wondered if it would all be too much. You have shown me how GORGEOUS it can all be. You should really pat yourself on the back!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust love it! My bathroom is that color..exactly!! I love it with the white! Just beautiful!
ReplyDelete-sandy toes
LOVE IT! AMAZING!!! You just gave me some ideas on how to complete our master bath decor! Thanks!! BTW-LOVE the "S" you ade out of greenery! Super cute idea!
ReplyDeleteLove your bathroom, our bedroom is chocolate brown with white trim and we love it, so warm and cozy. Could you tell me what you used to go over the paint to make it shimmer. Also, do you know how they do those fancy ceilings? I can't remember what they call it, crows feet or something like that. Thanks for your help.
ReplyDeletePeggy
Your bathroom is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI am speechless. It is stunning. Can I borrow you?
ReplyDeleteLooks great and light those candles girl! Great job!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmm you have got me thinking!!! Yep, seeing as I have a room this exact color (I don't know what to call the room, it used to be a living room, now we just pass through it. Lets call it the pass through room) anywhooo, I could so totally do this in there.
ReplyDeleteI love it! It looks like a high-end hotel bathroom. The brown and white is classic. I can't wait to see the tutorial!
ReplyDeleteLove the chocolate brown - I recently redid my laundry room in chocolate brown and peanut butter with malted milk balls - check out my blog! Yummy candy colors!
ReplyDeleteOkay little Missy, where have you been all my life? You have some fabulous ideas on your blog. I'm off to scout out the rest of your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to meet you. :-)
Isn't it kinda funny that we have to buy rocks? I bet 100 years ago, they'd never have dreamed we'd by and decorate with rocks.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, I love that rug. You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! Seriously beautiful! I am so impressed! This bathroom looks like you spent a lot on it, but I know you probably didn't because, hey, you are Miss Thrifty Decor Chick! I just read Monday's post and you had me laughing. I can so relate to going to Hobby Lobby so much. I am almost embarrassed because I know the employees talk about me wondering why I'm not working or how they think I don't have a life other than buying stuff from them. I know the inventory more than they do I'll bet! Can't wait to see your finished projects!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and wanted you to know that it is my new FAVORITE! You are beyond talented and I love, love, love your style! I can't wait to read more posts!

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh...love it...but what I really want to know is did you do the crown molding around the light switch or is that all pre-fabbed? I need one of those in my bathroom due to some chipped wall. Tell me your secrets. Oh and were you aware you have word verification on? Maybe you are and that was on purpose but you can take it off in your settings. Just an FYI...LOVE THE BATHROOM! We are going to get together one day so I can learn your molding secrets.
ReplyDeleteOh you must light the candles! Even if for a short amount of time so it can have that comfy cozy look. Not that it doesn't already. Oh dear, I hope you know what I mean.. LOL
