Using magnolia flowers in your Christmas decorations and mantel.
It seems I can't use enough greenery in my Christmas decor. This pretty magnolia and greenery Christmas mantel is a favorite!
My house looks like a pine tree threw up all over it (but in a pretty way) by the time I'm done every season. And every year, I add more. My style is very traditional, and there's nothing that screams traditional more this time of year, then greenery wrapped around EVERYTHING.
This year, I was quite obsessed with adding white magnolias to our corner fireplace mantel. I saw it somewhere months ago and fell. in. love. I looked at Joann's, nothing. Hobby Lobby, nada. The web, zilch.
I realized I hadn't stopped by Micheal's. The clouds opened up and I found EXACTLY what I wanted there last week, half off.
First of all, you need a few strands of basic greenery. (The more the better!) I usually get mine from Joann's for less than $3 each. For this project, I found greenery at Micheal's for $2 each. Got three, wrapped them together.
Then piled on the goodies...
I wrapped the whole thing with two strands of lights, then stuck a lot of these white beads in (also half off):
A little of this crystal garland (I already had):
And a TON of these silk Magnolia flowers...glorious!!:
Love it! Your photos came out great. I try to take pictures of my lit tree and it looks awful in photos.
ReplyDeleteI too love sitting in a dark room with white lights lit around me. So peaceful.
Your garland and mantel are really lovely.
I am so enjoying getting things decorated for Christmas too.
ReplyDeleteI really like the crystal candleholders best. I can just imagine seeing the reflection of the lights in them....perfect!
Absolutely gorgeous! I also love all the lights around the house - makes it so warm and cozy! Crystal candleholders look nice!
ReplyDeleteSarah, The magnolia's look wonderful. You did a great job!!
ReplyDeleteI love the crystal candleholders. They make everything look so elegant. I would love to see your son say, HO Ho Ho!! You're going to have a blast with him this Christmas!!!
Hugs, Terrie
Looks beautiful. I personally like the glass candlesticks. They would be great with some light trickeling through.
ReplyDeleteI agree...Christmas lights just transform a room. I think your mantle looks lovely. And your little dude sounds adorable!! HoHoHo!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I'm even more inspired to get my stuff up :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the garland.
Sarah~ I think I like the crystal to add sparkle, but the others look great also. So glad you found the flowers...they look really nice.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!! Can you come decorate my mantle, please?
ReplyDeleteThat looks beautiful! I like the crystal candle holders also. I love it when the light reflects off of the glass and shoots little glowing sparklys everywhere!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I love the glow of Christmas lights on my mantle, too! It's so nice and homey!
ReplyDeleteI personally like the dark candleholders because they pull all the dark ironwork together! The glass ones are very pretty, but I say go with the dark!
Love, love, love your blog!
I vote for the crystal candleholders
ReplyDeletePS: everything is stunning!
I think your mantel looks wonderful I love Christmas lights around the house!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I vote for the glass candleholders.
ReplyDeleteOh That is so pretty, makes me want to decorate.... but I cant.
ReplyDeleteSo I will just stalk your blog and pretend I did it to my house! HAH.
I am going to have to say that for my house I would love to have the glass candle holders. (See I am pretty good, for a sec there you thought you were decorating my house huh.)
SO PRETTY! I love the magnolias! They really add a lot to your beautiful garland.
ReplyDeleteI like the glass candleholders. I feel like the others are too dark for the twinkly, light feel you have going on.
ReplyDeleteYou should record your son so we can hear his "Ho, hos". : )
Pretty! Pretty! Pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo neat when you find a specific something you've been hinting for, isn't it?
I vote for the crystal candleholders.
Happy Thanksgiving!
That is beautiful! You are so talented. I enjoy coming to your blog and seeing what you have created.
ReplyDeleteI like the dark candleholders, but I'm not a huge fan of Crystal.....I think the dark pulls it all together.
ReplyDeleteI loveeee this decoration! Great job :) I prefer the crystal candleholders....
ReplyDeleteOh, and the HO HO HO?? So funny! I can just imagine it now... haha!
Magnolias! Yet another idea I may have to copy! Keep them coming - our houses may look identical before the holidays are over! M.
ReplyDeleteWow! Everything turned out absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the crystal candleholders, too =)
Hands down the crystal. It's all sparkly and wintery and snow like and I love it and I'm stealing the magnolia idea for my tree!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the dark candlesticks. Your mantle is BEAutiful!
ReplyDelete..cracking up about your son acting like Santa..that is adorable!
I like the crystal, it makes the delicate magnolias pop. It lookes magical. I can't wait to get my Christmas stuff out, you have really inspired me.
ReplyDeleteStunning! The magnolias look beautiful!!! Great job.
ReplyDeleteKimba
Gorgeous dahling! I love me some lighted garland...it makes my heart happy! And of course, being the southern girl that I am, I am all about the fab magnolias. Perfect touch! The glass candlesticks are beautiful, but I like the bronze ones better on the mantle. They go along beautifully with the ironwork and tie it all together. Very classic. LOVE IT!
ReplyDeletebeautiful!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGuess who's putting up her Christmas tree tonight! And guess who inspired her? LOL
ReplyDeleteDrooling. It's so beautiful that I am drooling. Ugh.
GORGEOUS!!
ReplyDeleteI'd go with the glass candlesticks with this one. The black ones tend to fall in with the black in the background.
Great idea and soooo beautiful!
I love it!! It looks so magical!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, all of you ladies out there in blogland are so talented. I can't wait to get my decor up. If you have a Kirklands I saw a X-mas stocking stand (iron)they were selling at $19.99, good idea if you didn't want to hang them off the mantle.
Beautiful! I love the glass candle holders because they go with the white, and green scheme. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Love the magnolias, but I'm a Mississippi girl, so we're partial being the Magnolia state and all! I like the crystal better.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have a corner fireplace (gas) like yours too. Decorating it is very tricky. You've done a fabulous job. Love all the little lights.
ReplyDeleteI vote for the black candlesticks because they keep the display grounded. The glass ones are nice too, but since they're clear, they kind of get lost. Just my 2 cents. :)
Looks gorgeous! I envy your talents!
ReplyDeleteI use white poinsettias but I think the white magnolias look prettier!
GOR-GEOUS! I can't wait to dig out my garlands and give that a try. I vote for the glass candlesticks, but you really can't lose with either set. The glass just seem more...angelic or something. :)
ReplyDeleteI love it all! I can't wait to decorate for Christmas, but I have a strict wait-until-after-Thanksgiving policy. It's silly. I should change it.
ReplyDeleteI like the gladd candlesticks the best. The sparkle with the lights...oh yeah! And you are a funny lady...I can just picture you cutie-pie and his "ho ho ho"!~
ReplyDeleteBoth candlesticks look nice, but to me the crystal ones get lost against the white background. It's a little hard to tell if it would work heigth-wise (is that a word?) - could you group two of the metal ones with a crystal one in front of it on one side and use something else on the other? Not sure if that a-symmetrical idea would work or not???? :)
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely, lovely. The crystal "vases" will look gorgeous when lit up. Love it!
ReplyDeleteNicole
As always - gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of crystal, but I'm sure it'll give a perfect sparkle... & I think the darker ones pop out more - so I guess it depends on what look you want most. The pop out of candles or the twinkle of candle light...
I have no doubt either is going to be stunning!
The mantle looks great. I like the darker candlesticks. Deana
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Love your mantel. I think I prefer the green trees best. It all looks SO festive.
ReplyDeleteI think I like the candlesticks best! Beautiful mantle either way!
ReplyDeleteHi Thrifty,
ReplyDeleteYou know you need to do a video of Bub doing that for us, right? Oh yea, we aren't posting our kid pictures...Love the garland! I'm going to attempt one this year. It will probably look like poo - not even close to yours! Came over to say thanks for following & have a good Thanksgiving. I'm headed down to the beach for a few days, but I'll catch up w/ you when I get back.

I love love love your garland. We are so alike! I love the garland and trees too. Your mantle looks great! I liked the second picture with the black candle sticks the best, but either would look great! Your son sounds so cute! They are so fun that age. Christmas is really a magical time when you have little kids!
ReplyDeleteGlorious. Absolutely glorious. That is how I would describe your garland. 5 stars all the way around! I have a corner fireplace too so I liked to see how you decorated yours. The tree on top is so cute. You've got the wheels in my head spinning...again. I like the glass cups...though I thought I would like the candlesticks more. The glass cups bc they just shimmer and looks so ice-like and delicate. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteSuch lovliness everywhere I looked on this post. Lots of new and inspiring ideas here. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteM.L.
I too like the crystal. Love all your greenery and I SO agree with the magic of Christmas lights in the dark. So warm, relaxing and perfect! My tree and decor will be going up Friday. I am SO excited!
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT! I vote for the dark candle sticks the others get lost on the mantle....I put my stocking on the back of my kitchen chairs with a big bow. Everyone has a chair and everyone has a stocking :)
ReplyDeletewow! it looks great. can not wait to get my decorations out too...
ReplyDelete~nicole
Oh, how lovely! Just gorgeous. I think I like the darker candlesticks better :)
ReplyDeleteLooks purdy. The candlesticks - I think the clear ones disappear on your mantle so you'd probably need green candles to draw them out. I'd vote those. Caauuute (hehe) story about your little one. Kids are so funny when they learn something new. I remember teaching my niece how to snort like a pig when we'd say "what does the pig say, Emma?" Oh my! It was hilarious watching her little 1yr old self trying to snort.
ReplyDeleteI say either the crystal, or no candlesticks. The dark ones are too heavy w/ the other items. It all looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI hope Bub isn't afraid of Santa after all this prep!
I vote for the crystal candle hoders. Beautiful decor!
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. You have inspired me to do something to mine, maybe roses and poinsettias. Just one question and really it is always the simple things that get me, How did you hang the garland from the mantle?
ReplyDeleteI love your garland! It looks fabulous! I love the simple white only look. Very classy!
ReplyDeleteI live in a condo without a fireplace or mantle. On my "someday" list is to have have a mantle/storage shelves built into either the dining area or living area. Once I have that, THEN I'll be able to do cute stuff like this.
