The Everett foyer table from World Market

March 06, 2013

I’ll always be thrifty at heart and a DIY girl, but sometimes it nice to splurge, you know?

If you’ve been with me for a while you remember the Hemnes sofa table I brought home a few years ago, after my first trip to IKEA. (Sniff. I remember it well.):

Excuse the poor photo – this was back in my I-take-pictures-at-night early days of blogging. ;)

So yeah, I’ve been stink-eyeing the sofa table for a while. I still liked it just fine, it’s a great table, it just looked so simple in there. I was craving something a little prettier, I just didn’t know what it was.

Till a couple months ago I walked in to World Market and saw this beauty:

everett foyer table world market

It’s the Everett foyer table, but I always saw it as a sofa table. The first thing that struck me about it was how long it was – I loved that! Since that photo above we have replaced the sofa and loveseat with a sectional and rearranged the room. So the part of the sectional that is right there is super long.

Thing is, the first time I saw it, I walked around it for a good ten minutes, finger to lips, stalking it. I decided to go home and measure to see if it would work.

It worked. :) I didn’t go back to get it yet, I wanted to think on it some more. So a few weeks later I was back, and stalked it again, this time with a couple other ladies. ;) I asked if it was in stock, just to see (or something) and it was wayyy out of stock. People loved it, of course, cause it’s beautiful. (And still is today!)

They asked if I wanted a rain check and I said no, I wanted to think some more. If it’s not there for me to just get right then I feel like it’s just not the right time. I’m weird that way.

Since then I’ve gone in at least one more time, caressed it, checked again and it was still out of stock. Fast forward to yesterday afternoon when I decided to pop in. I said to myself if they had it I was going to do it, I had the money, if it was meant to be they’d have it in stock. The guy didn’t think they did, but checked anyway and then came back out with my lovely table rolling behind him.

I was all high-pitched squeal, “You HAVE it??” and he was all yeah! And I was all, load. it. up. man!!

I put it together late last night cause I have the patience of a gnat. Assuming gnats have little patience. Whatever:

everett foyer table instructions

It was so fast – maybe 20 minutes to assemble it.

I am in LOVE. It’s hard to tell, but it has two skinny drawers for a little bit of hidden storage. We have animal stuff in one:

everett foyer table world market

My only complaint is that one of the drawers is too small, you can see the gap in this pic:

world market Everett table

So when I pull it out it falls off the track and nearly falls out. I may call to get a new drawer but I’m not taking this back after assembling the thing. I think I can fix it pretty easily if they can’t send a new drawer.

I took what had been on the old Hemnes sofa table and put it on here, and added one thing just to fill in space for now. This is probably not how it will stay but I just had to share, remember the patience thing:

Long foyer or sofa table

Gorgeous, huh?? I just adore it.

I think I’m going to look for some pretty hardware for the front of the drawers – you can’t really tell they are drawers and I’d like to show them off. (There’s a little cut out underneath you can use as a handle):

rustic long sofa table

The games will stay – not the prettiest accessories but we like having some up in the family room/kitchen for easy access. Stuff needs to be functional for me foremost, at least most of the time.

I like that it’s not too deep too, it doesn’t stick out any further than the IKEA table did:

Everett long table behind sofa

I cannot believe the difference it makes – it’s so pretty and I love those legs! I even considered trying to make this for awhile with some table legs, but after putting it together I realized I couldn’t have done it in a way that would have been sturdy enough. (At least with the tools I have.)

I’m so glad I finally just got it!! I consider it my treat for all the purging I’ve been doing over the past few weeks. And I did use a coupon, so that helped a little.

I just think it’s lovely:

decorating Everett sofa table

The color on that photo is wonky, not sure what’s up with it. But this shot shows you why I want to paint these walls so bad – they match the sectional exactly. It is too much tan for me! I’ve already decided on a color similar to the Sherwin Williams Analytical Gray we used in a lot of the main floor last year.

So there you go – my splurge. I thought long and hard about it and I usually go with the “if it’s meant to be” mantra – I’ll leave something and come back. If it’s meant to be mine it will still be there. If not I just go home and cry. OK, kidding. ;) I do have a plan for the IKEA table – if it fits in the spot. I’ll let you know.

Have you splurged on something for the house lately? For yourself? Do tell!

  1. Ohhh, it looks so great! I must say that I am super impressed at how great your game boxes look as well. Ours are barely making it in one piece so I hide them in the basement but would love to keep them out somewhere else if my kids were nicer to the boxes. :-)

  4. You live close to a Trader Joes? We do not. Boooo. An hour+ drive for Trader Joes is too much for me. I did not know they had macarons. Next time I do get to one I will have to try them. The table is gorgeous.

p.s. I still haven't caulked and repainted the bookshelves in the office.

  5. LOVE it! It looks so great. :) I like that there are drawers too. I'm the same way about purchases. If it's there (and on sale or I have a coupon), yay! If not, c'est la vie!

  7. There was a custom made sofa in an interior design store that I spotted last May, but there was no way we could get it at that time. We tried to work out a lay-a-way deal, but they wanted too much down. I went back in Oct and said "if they have it, it's meant to be". It was there and they worked out a much better deal at that time and we brought the sofa home in January. I love it!!!

  8. I did the same thing. Eyed that table online for 2 months and then finally went in and had to order it. I absolutely love mine too!

  9. Love that table! I am actually looking for a long skinny one for my foyer...I wonder if that one would work?! I'll have to measure out my space! I am impressed at your willpower. I usually think something is "meant to be" if I want it....lol! :)

  10. Love the table! I'm saving my SPA-LURGING for Saturday at the Indie Arts & Vintage Marketplace :) Hope to see you there!

  11. Hate to burst your bubble but that mascara is impossible to get off!! It's on your lashes like waterproof!!
Good luck..I love the look of it but it's torture to remove!!

  12. I totally splurged on an entire new set of Fiesta dishes. I'd been putting it off and eyeballing them for forever, and finally took the plunge. And I'm so glad I did. I love them!

  13. I love that table! How did I miss this when I was at world market yesterday? You could say I splurged recently. ;) I bought a massive amount if clothes, jewelry, shoes, and a new handbag for our spring break trip. Everything was on sale, if course!

  14. I absolutely love this piece. It is so you (and me lol) and fits your space beautifully! way to go. I admire your patience in buying it. I rush into things.

  15. Love the table! Your house is really looking great! Love everything you are doing.

I'm going to order the mascara...hopefully it will not flake like mine does now.

It's funny because I spurge on macarons too! I recently ordered them from Etsy. The shop is called nicoleleechocolates. They have all flavors...lemon and raspberry are my favorites.

  16. Beautiful! Looks great in that spot. What I want to know is where does the cord for that lamp run? Do you have floor plugs? I always have trouble with lamps on floating sofa tables because of the dang cord! I've heard there are flat extensions cord available, but I've never seen one.

My recent splurge for our brand new house was a beautiful upholstered chair for the master bedroom. I should blog about it soon!

  17. I love the table!! I also love the fact that your dog is hanging out on the couch in most of those photos. So where did you put the shelf that was behind the couch? Just curious if it has a home yet.

  18. Oh Sarah it is simply yummy! Yes the table, although the macarons look yummy too! I know exactly what you mean about splurging.... I did the very same thing earlier this week. However my splurge an expensive pair of shoes, ankle boots, and a wool sweater. I figure a first time trip to France with my middle son is a good reason. I shudder to think of how much they would have been if they hadn't been on sale. Trust me the price of said footwear about KILLED me! But I know they will last me a LONG time.... (the last time i bought a similar style boot they lasted me over 15 years...)

Enjoy you lovely new table!! Have fun at the sale this weekend! I was going to e-mail you but after this splurge decided it was time to go back to saving... a girl has to have a little spending money for Paris. :)

  20. World Market left our area and then came back! YAY! I have had my eye on that console for awhile. Not only is it a really great piece of furniture, my son's name is Everett. :)

  21. I'm obsessed with that mascara! I'm on my first tube and will never use anything else! I searched long and hard for a mascara that would last throughout the day and I finally found it! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

  22. Hi Sarah!
The table looks gorgeous! I've been "splurging" on a few new accessories to lighten and brighten up my house for spring.
Just wondering, you mentioned painting your walls gray. I've been considering that too. I have a lot of brown and tan furniture, though, and am wondering if they'll work well together. Right now I too have tan walls and want to change to a different light neutral. Do all you talented ladies think browns and grays work well together? I wonder if I'd be better off with a taupe or mushroom that has some tan AND gray to it?
    Thanks!
    Kerry

  23. I recently needed new mascara and bought one that I thought would be really good. It doesn't impress me more than any other kind of mascara. You should upload a before and after pic of how your lashes look with this mascara on. I'd be more than willing to spend $15 on mascara that I'm in love with! :D

  24. LOTS of snow here, and a snow day for the kids. The only reason I'm not totally depressed by it is because it's supposed to warm up big time by the weekend, so the snow won't be staying. :-)

LOVE the table - fits in beautifully in your family room!!!

  25. I think that table looks fabulous and the price was pretty good to start with. I always forget about World Market for furniture. I might have to go and look at their side tables. I desperately need one and Craigslist isn't helping out like usual...

  28. Love your table!! How have I missed that at World Market?
The macaroons look yummy....will have to tell my kids as they have a TJ in their college town but I have to drive an hour. The crazy people in my town put up such a stink TJ decided to not put one here. I love that mascara but have such a time removing it....what do you use to remove it?

  29. OH, I'm so jealous!! I have been eyeying this table too!! It's on my wish list, but of course there are many other things that are higher priority. It looks gorgeous in your space and the way you've decorated it!

  30. I love that table! It is so nice. ....perfect in that spot. Good for you...just going ahead and getting it.

  31. It's gorgeous! I love it.

Also, if you wanted to be totally crazy, it probably wouldn't be THAT hard to cover the tops/sides of the game boxes with more ~decorative exteriors. Like decoupaged game box slipcovers! Some pretty (or brown craft) papers and vinyl letters or stencils/stickers and wham!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Great choice, it is stunning and so perfect for that spot. I agree, I totally love it and you so deserve a splurge. Hugs, Marty

  33. This may sound crazy, because it did to me BUT, I once bought a table with two drawers and one was "smaller" than the other once it was assembled. However, when I switched the two drawers out with each other, just to check, it actually worked out. So, maybe try switching the drawers?

  34. Why am I the only one that would suggest you cover the game boxes.. pretty paper, burlap, foil, anything that would match your room. You could even get a nice basket to store them in...on your pretty table that fits your couch better than the other one. Love your blog and enjoy reading every remark!

  35. Gorgeous! Looks so good I can hardly stand it!!

  36. I love you added the games on the bottom shelf - I think they are the perfect addition! It says we are family & we live here :)

  38. I bought the same table about a month ago. You are much more patient than I though! It was during their furniture sale and my WM was out of stock so I drove over an hour away to another store to pick it up. The good news is that I got $75 off of it! It is a gorgeous piece. Mine still needs a little styling help. Enjoy :)

  39. Love that new sofa table! It looks perfect in that space!

I'm also obsessed with macaroons lately, now you have me craving some!

  40. Good call on that mascara. I've been using it for over a year and for the first time in my life, I've got a full fringe of lashes. I have had trouble with it smudging after a long day but I'll live with it. Wish it would come in more colors and was waterproof. Sometime you've got to spend the $$ to get the desired result.

    ReplyDelete
  41. That is a great table - nice buy! I bet you could find a great basket to hold all of those games and make it a little purtier, although I like them as they are, stacked up, reminding folks that hey, people live here and they play games!

I'll need to pop in to World Market - looks like I've been missing out!

    ReplyDelete
  42. WOW!!!

Love your new table!! When I go back, it's usually gone...For good. No new ones coming in, that was the last one. ALL the time!!

Going out to buy that mascara. I've had it with clumps after one use!!

    Thanks

  48. I’m drooling over a bookcase at World Market. We don’t’ have any here in Boston but I made a trip while I was in California. Probably a good thing we don’t have them here. I wouldn’t be able to control myself!

  49. I love the new table. I like the idea of having the games at hand, but what if you had an old wooden slatted milk crate to store them in? You could turn on it's side, slide the games in and turn it to the side or backwards so you didn't see the games when they weren't in use. Just a thought. Love everything else!

  51. I was obsessed with that table too! I had the money and was ready to buy it till I saw it in person. Yikes. The pickling/whitewash was just slopped on and you could barely get the drawers out. I was SO disappointed. It is gorgeous & I'm glad you bought it and are loving it. I couldn't pay that money for that lack of quality. Such a shame. We have a lot of World Market furniture that's built really well... Not sure what happened with this piece. ;-(

  53. Sarah,

Long time reader, here. I enjoy you and your blog so much! The World Markets here (Metro Detroit) closed up a few years or so ago, so I haven't seen their product in a while. That table is gorgeous and very similar to one I've been eyeing at Pottery Barn, the Tivoli Console Table. But I like that yours has a lower shelf, and is HALF the price of the Pottery Barn one! Thought that should make you feel even better about your purchase!

  54. It looks gorgeous! I really like that you have the games out and on display. I think so often we get too caught up in what our homes "should" look like (hello pinterest age!), that we sometimes forget that they are really supposed to be for living. I love when you walk into a room and despite all the pretty decor, it still says "A FAMILY LIVES HERE!"

    ReplyDelete
  55. The sofa table is lovely and as much as we love our homes to look beautiful we do LIVE in them. I finally revealed my master bedroom on my blog without removing tissue boxes or phone chargers. I too splurge on that mascara - usually with a coupon. I justify it by cost per day - pennies really for so much happiness!

  59. Sarah! We have been looking for a new console table and just last night found one we loved for $1500! Yikes!! And no way!! Our old console table that I just sole this week was from World Market so I'm not sure why I didn't think to look there. But guess where we're headed right now?! And with cash in hand from the sale of the old table it's not too much of a splurge. :)
